My Bloody Valentine.

The place where no good punk-asses and aimless hipsters come to discuss a rather lousy comic.

My Bloody Valentine.

Post by Yeahduff »

I know one guy who's interested in this, if he hasn't already heard.

Following months of hope and speculation from devoted fans and music blogs, My Bloody Valentine have confirmed that they are back together and recording new material.

The legendary Irish group, known for their distinctive and distorted brand of noise-rock, have confirmed they will be releasing their first album since 1991 next year.

In an interview with Vice Broadcasting Service, which airs next Monday, MBV frontman Kevin Shields talks about the new recordings: "It sounds like what we sounded like, different but not radically different. People will go, 'Yeah, it sounds like My Bloody Valentine.'" He also revealed that the as-yet-unnamed album was first started in 1996 but features material from as far back as 1993, as well as "a little bit of new stuff".

Although the band never officially split, MBV were last heard of 16 years ago with the release of the seminal album Loveless. Rumours that the band were working together again surfaced in January this year, when Shields told Magnet magazine that the band would "100%" record a new album, "unless we die or something..."

There was also talk of an appearance at next year's Coachella festival, with music news site the Daily Swarm reporting in August that the band are set to headline the festival in 2008, though the band have yet to confirm or deny this.

That is awesome!

Luckily this isn't a another Helmet or Smashing Pumpkins "reunion".

What will it sound like after the Shoegazing revival?

My understanding is that these guys don't hate each other, so it should be the full band. How they'll sound after 16 years? Who knows. But this is exciting.

Kid A with lots of fuzzy fucking guitars and a lot less alienation maybe?
Yoshimi with out the LSD and super fuzzed guitars?
Air on ecstasy and codeine with super overdriven amps?
Mogwai doing Cure inspired pop songs?

:D

I never heard that they hated each other. Everything I heard was that they just had really bad writer's block and the label wouldn't pay for more studio time, so they just went on hiatus.

Anyway, more links here

Cool.

According to Bob Moulds, Shields has been working on stuff all along, he was just real insecure about it. Fucking auteurs.

Corgon was really big on MBV's Loveless when recorded Siamese Dreams.

There's a fun games where you listen to Loveless and Siamese Dreams back to back, and pick out where Billy cribbed from the Valentines. :)

To be fair, Billy was doing something else with all the distortion, and he has way too big an ego to bury his vocals or have D'Arcy sing all the songs.

He didn't rejoin because Billy wouldn't let D'Arcy sing all of the songs? :)

Definately, Siamese Dreams will never be mistaken for Loveless, but there are parts where the riffs in Siamese Dreams sound similar to the riffs in Loveless. When I used to listen to the two albums a lot, I could pick the parts out, but I don't think I could at the moment. I may try that this weekend since my girlfriend is going to be out of town on Saturday.
