to force it, don't you need to hit "full update" or "index only"? I thought "regular" was "as scheduled".

And, not to be a bum, but my site is still only semi-functional. The comics are all there in the folder, but they refuse to appear on the site.

You've got it right and wrong.

A manual Regular Update, and the scheduled update, do the same thing. You can (and should) use a manual Regular Update if you upload your comic belatedly and want it to show.

This is beyond weird.

So I just got a new laptop a week or so back and started working on the updates I missed. (And thus missed out on the bulk of the moving woes.)

Yesterday (can't remember what time) I uploaded the finished comics to the online FTP. So far so good. I log onto Siteadmin and order an update. That seems to work.

Until I checked my comic today and found none of the new comics on the site. The last comic is still the July 30th one I uploaded befor my old computer died.

So what happened to the ones I dated for August 1st through 10th? I checked the public_html folder and all the comics are there, including the html pages they appear on. They just don't show up in the archive and the latest one doesn't appear on the homepage.

I use Windows XP, FireFox 2, and cable internet.

Comics are moved from the workspace/comics folder to the public_html/comics folder before the html code for the d folder is created.

Check to make sure that the indextemplate.html and dailytempate.html files are in your workspace folder, check your comic's advanced settings to make sure that "Auto Update" is still set to 'yes' (some comics were set to 'no' during the server move) and check that you don't have an index.html file in the workspace section (that disables updates for some reason).

If those are all ok, try deleting your templates and uploading them again from your computer (make sure you have copies of them first!).

Both indextemplate.html and dailytemplate.html are in the workspace folder. Auto Update is set to yes. There is no index.html file in the workspace section.

I'll try that now...

Just ordered a full update to get the new template pages read and there are 39 in the queue. Sure hope this works.

Edit: Queue went through. And it didn't work.

Actually, I'm having the exact same problem as brigid and I know for a fact I did it right. The FTP says the updates went through, but the site shows no change, even after hard refreshes and a cache clearing.

What I notice is that brigid and I both used the online FTP. I'm going to try a different FTP client and see if it goes through that way.

That did it. The problem is in the current Web FTP... Frankly, I'm not surprised that it's glitching, with the server move. The cure is finding an alternative FTP client. Some are shown here.

Okay, so we should be advising people to not use the web ftp, at least for now.

I use Dreamweaver, so I'd never have caught this one...

Update that concerns no one but me and whoever can fix it:

Comics still don't show up. They're in the public_html/comics folder, but none of them show up. I tried downloading the latest one that Cricket uploaded to see if I could just post it in the blog below the comic, but it wouldn't even let me do that. It created a 0kb file with the right name. I tried changing permissions to what they were when Kisai fixed this the first time on the entire folder and then just an individual comic. It wouldn't let me.

What I know: Cricket's using FireFTP, the same thing I use, but it's all funky when he does it. I haven't had any problems with it.

ok im getting the your browser is broken - BLEH!
i can FTP useing "smart FTP" and my comic is updateing fine but siteadmin is unable to be reached it keeps giving me the same dang error there is nothing wrong with my browser ( works fine on a other secure sites )
i have logged in and out of the forums ( again and again ) to no avail -

I do apologize, but my comic is updating before the set date.
IE file is set for 2007/08/29 and the update was done today.

Now I may be just a little out of sorts but I am wondering ( and please do not pounce upon me and tear my flesh from me) but since it was on the ( Tomorrow 1am alaska) setting before and I switched it to the ( Tomorrow 12am PST) will that change so it will update the night of the update or after...
again I do apologize I am just asking for info and if what I did caused the issue please tell me.

I'm a new user, trying to upload my comic.

I am logged into the CG forum. I enter in my FTP username and my FTP password which was given to me via email on 8/22/07. Today is 8/29/07. I get the following message.

Yup.

Double check that you're typing in the caps of the emailed password; they're case sensitive. Also, make sure you confirmed the password sent to you (a link should have been in the email sent on th 22nd) If you did both those things and it still doesn't work, then just keep waiting. It can take up to two weeks for the passwords to work correctly on some accounts.

Don't worry; you're almost out of it.

Okay, in addition to all that, I even tried typing out the URL for the 'missing' pages. I tried with d/ and without. Both ways I got 'file not found'.

Thing is, they're there in the public_html folder. What the heck gives!?!

mlai: for the siteadmin, you need to enter your forum username and password.

You use the ftp password when accessing your account directly through an ftp program, and when adding the comic to your account in siteadmin.
