Too bad. I've been getting mad traffic from an interview I did at : http://www.thescientist.com
Good thing it wasn't down last Friday afternoon (Lab Bratz got >12000 page views) when the interview first went up.
Estimated time to fix?
Ed
Debugging a misconfiguration, be patient.
I made the same change to the forum server and the forum server is behaving.

I've had some visitors contact me in regards to some funky things going on with "today's strip". I believe it's only in IE where this occurs. When they are loading the main page, a strip from several days back is showing up. They need to do a full refresh (F5) of the page to get the latest strip to show (or go to "previous" and then back to "next").
I've had them fix their browser cache to download new data every time they visit the site, but that hasn't even helped in all cases. Deleting the temporary internet files will work for a while, but the problem seems to happen again at the time of the next update.
I typically use FireFox, and, even when I do use my version of IE, it seems to work fine. I'm still, however, receiving numerous queries about the status of the strip and whether or not I'm planning to update any time soon. And there's no way to put a note up on the main page, because their browsers keep loading an old version of the index.
Has this problem cropped up for anybody else on their sites? Is there some sort of a conflict between the new server and Internet Explorer? I'm sort of at a loss right now, as I can't figure out why the site would be doing that.

I've gotten the same complaints since Monday from readers. There's also been issues with getting to the site at all (site not found, connection has timed out, etc.) Currently I can't get into siteadmin and my roommate claims not to be able to get into EE at all. Though I assume what Kisai posted above is what's going on, hopefully it won't go on much longer.

Okay two things to consider...
The first, is that if people are seeing the 'old' page, it's because they are likely behind a proxy server. One hard refresh (shift-f5) should fix that and all future points.
That said I'm debugging a misconfiguration of the server. I recently discovered that there is a better way to configure apache, but I think I never compiled in the correct options initially, because the server just stops after a few hours. It seems like the server (ie, freebsd) is going, oh the webserver is consuming too much memory and then kicking it to the kirb.
Why I say that is that every time I've restarted apache, the free memory has increased by another GB.

I don't seem to be on the list (unless I simply missed my name...but I never used the interim updater), and my auto-updater isn't working properly either. I get a successful auto-update once every couple of weeks; otherwise, I have to do it manually. I also have to go into site admin and re-enter my auto-update information almost every day...not that it does any good, since the info immediately vanishes. And yes, I'm saving it.rkolter wrote:Mine has.Trades wrote:Will the Autoupdater ever be fixed? my comic has not auto updated since the server change.
Kisai posted a list of people who used StrRedWolf's interim wolf-updater that may have broken their auto-updater. You may be on that list.

As a reminder to everyone reading/posting in this thread
This thread is for Technical Issues only:
- Debugging Autoupdates (post your rss.xml file BEFORE manually updating)
- Debugging Siteadmin login (Post the debug information)
- Debugging Webalizer stats (inside siteadmin issue with unescaped entity)
- Error messages generated by uploading via FTP (permission issues)
It is NOT for:
- HTML help
- How to use FTP
- Complaining that the service is up/down
- Complaining about actions of admins/moderators, we're human too. Stress and mistakes happen.
I repeat... If you do NOT provide any information on how I can help you, I will tell you to get the information first.
Include:
a) text from the error messages
b) what you tried to do, when you tried to do it
c) what browser, software, or otherwise if it involves siteadmin or ftp.
And please 'search' the forum before starting a new thread about something.
Once again, this thread is for CURRENT issues that require admin attention.

my site is doing that thing again. it won't update (that is to say, it won't move the file from the workspace/comics folder to the public_html/comics folder) and all comics in the archives are invisible. I tried changing the properties of the files, but it won't let me. since it only happened after Chaos Cricket uploaded a new comic, I can only assume it is happening because of his settings and that may be what's locking me out.
Not that I am knowledgeable in such areas...
Edit: I tried downloading the file from the workspace folder and it's blank...and gone from workspace...

I've had a similar problem. When viewing the third latest page and clicking the next button, it takes the reader to latest page, on index.html, to view the second latest page they have to click the previous button. Personally I use Internet Explorer, but what program the readers who have noticed this problem use I do not know.
I think this may have started when I used the ftp to update because I wasn't able to log on to the site manager (this fixed now). I've tried refresh, full update and deleting my temporary internet files but nothing has changed.
I still cant log on T-T

The answer is in the error message. Read it. The username is case sensitive. Enter "RadsFiles" and not "radsfiles".RadsFiles wrote:I still cant log on T-T

Problem Report:
In Brief: I ran a Regular Update, it said the update was running, came back later and the update was no longer in queue and my comic did not update (did hard refresh to be sure). Re-ran Regular Update and this time it ran.
Details:
07:20am CST - I uploaded file 20070822.png to workspace/comics and went to Siteadmin and did a Regular Update. There was one update in queue; Siteadmin came back saying there were now 2 updates in queue, and that one of them was my Regular Update. As per normal.
Went to check the site at 08:00am CST and saw it had not updated. Did a hard refresh - still no go. Went into my FTP and saw that 20070822.png was still in workspace/comics. Went to Siteadmin, and it said there were 0 pending updates.
My update either got lost, or buggered.
I hit 'Regular Update' again and it came back with 1 pending update, and that I had a Regular update in queue. Refreshed a couple times until it went back to 0 pending updates, then checked my comic - the update occurred normally. I did not need to re-upload the file to make this work, just had to run an update twice.
