I'm baking another double layer chocolate cake from scratch tonight.

I'm going to see the Simpsons movie with my dad on friday. He's intrigued by a show that has survived 18 seasons, with a movie that pulled in 71 million dollars in 2 days.

I had a dream last night that I wanted to make Scotcharoos, and now I'm not sure if I actually want to or not. My subconcious seems to think so.

They're, uh... Well, they're weird. My friend's Scottish granny makes them. They're like rice krispie treats on the bottom, but if I remember correctly, they're held together with corn syrup, not marshmallow, and they're about half as thick. Then on top of that is another layer, just as thick, made from melting chocolate chips and butterscotch chips and surely something else goes in there, but I can't remember what. That gets spread on top, then refrigerated until it solidifies into a bar. Then you cut them into little squares, eat them, and watch your teeth rot right out of your head.

Dude, what the hell? Knock it off already.

Oy.

Um, that sounds very good, Nanda. I think I'd rather have my scotch in a glass than a pastery anyway.

They're ok. A bit too sweet, if you ask me. My teeth kinda hurt after eating them sometimes.

Too bad America puts it in practially everything. That's why our own soda brands taste better in foreign countries. They actually use sugar to sweeten everything. The corn lobby here is powerful.

You thought the corn syrup was bad, I just got the recipe from her in an e-mail:
1 cup corn syrup
1 cup sugar
1 cup peanut butter
6 cups rice crispies
1 bag milk chocolate chips
1 bag butterscotch chips

bring the corn syrup and sugar just to a boil, remove from heat, stir in peanut butter. poor over crispies, and mix.

spread onto greased cookie sheet

melt milk chocolate and butterscotch chips
spread over crispie mixture

they're actually better if you don't refridgerate them, but sometimes when its hot its the only way to get the chocolate to set

tada! :D

I was thinking of taking a recipe that calls for peanut butter, but replacing it with soynut butter to see what happens.

It might create a twisted creature of science that can only be killed by an atomic explosion, or not. I could just be delicious.

The corn people are very powerful. The best example right now is how they are pushing corn based ethanol as an alternative fuel. It's something that needs to be done, but not the way it's going. The ration I've heard is 450 lbs of corn for 25 gallons of gas. The rationale is so absurd it's awesome. It give me a warm feeling to know that people in poverty have to starve for me to drive my car.

Anyway, the point is that everyone is glossing over the effects of this and ignoring better solutions, like fuel cells.

Ethanol's a rather inefficient process as I understand it.
