I like him, too - I think he might actually be the cat that is a landmine.

Meh, i only color when i can justify the expense of time. Also my comic is in a manga style, not american, which means all toner and not (or selective) color.EvilChihuahua:
Yeah, the "doodle" moniker is really more of a suggestion. People post finished pics all the time. I only mentioned it because I went to your site and you only seemed to color for chapter covers.
but the Raeux promo was colored... ^^; (which is why i didn't finish the one on the first post)

You could read this comment in a few ways:VIIStar wrote:... okaaay.....ryclaude wrote:AAAAAAAAAAAH! STUPID. STUPID. STUPID.VIIStar wrote:Meh, i only color when i can justify the expense of time. Also my comic is in a manga style, not american, which means all toner and not (or selective) color.
(1) Manga is done to death in the webcomicking scene, and insisting on clinging to superficial manga guidelines (e.g. right-to-left, enormous eyes, honorifics) will turn away a lot of discerning readers who see "manga-style" comics as derivative, juvenile, and generally crappy. The fact is that a lot of the really good artists on these boards started out with a generic crappy manga style and gradually moved away from it and established their own, unique style of comic art.
(2) If you look at, you know, real manga, you'll see a variety of styles, some of which don't use toner or selective colour. Or enormous eyes. Or snout noses. Or stock facial expressions. Or whatever other "conventions" you might think of. Saying that you draw in "manga style" therefore becomes kind of stupid.
(3) The manga format is not always suited to webcomicking, either. You can get away with manga-style comic pacing if you release a whole whack of pages (e.g. a chapter) at once, as you'd get in a manga that's serialized in a magazine, but weekly updates with extended fight scenes and establishing shots will be boring.
(4) Don't bash American comics, as they, too, have a variety of styles. American/Manga is a stupid dichotomy, especially nowadays, with artists borrowing a variety of techniques.

How can you be pro-manga and not know how many different styles of manga there are?ryclaude wrote:that oneKeffria wrote:(2) If you look at, you know, real manga, you'll see a variety of styles, some of which don't use toner or selective colour.
