DJ, I think you might owe Howard somewhat for your increase today.
He plugged you in his open letter today: http://schlockmercenary.com
He's gathered himself quite a few faithfull followers for being a space (outer not keen) comic.
Tyler Martin

It was kind of a two-fold thing. I've been promising D.J. a plug for a while now, but wanted to wait until there were enough strips online for folks I sent his way to get a real feel for Gravity.
Anyway, I figured now was a good time, what with me getting my butt kicked by hard-science types who took me up on my <A HREF="http://www.schlockmercenary.com/d/20010 ... o-lazy' challenge, to point my readers at some sci-fi that's a bit less pretentious than I've been lately.
Now turned out to be a very good time for D.J. I've been getting triple my regular number of visitors thanks to this being my week as the default banner. (The toasty-snake banner should go away in a day or two, to be replaced by something more melancholically MelonPool)
So there's the whole story. I'm going back to scripting strips now.
--Howard

No, these hits aren't coming from Howard's site. I appreciate the plug there though!- It's about 400-500 page views an hour now, and if those are all coming from Howard's site, GOD BLESS HIM!-- But it looks like it's something else too bringing in the traffic.- I'm gonna look into it.
------------------

I'm getting a slight increase in pages (tremendous relative to my average) but odds are you've done something seriously right. Congratulations.
------------------

Well, I'm not one to brag or show off, but I have to ask other spacers about this...
Ok I'll be straight up about my pageviews. Since day one I have been averaging about 400-500 a day. Sometimes dropping to 235 on slow days. Well this morning I check my page views and my stats jumped to 835 for yesterday and 1145 for this morning alone and it keeps growing every friggin minute. As far as I know I didn't do anythig to bring this ammount of traffic in- Is anyone else seeing these spurts in numbers today? Anyway I hope this doesn't discourage anyone, I'm shocked and I think it's some sort of glitch or mistake in the system, and if not I can't tell on my list where all these hits are coming from.
------------------

Maybe everyone heard that you have tons of porn on your site, and went there?? If not before, they will now!
I have been getting lots of hits too, and I can't imagine why, cause not one person has linked to me, or said anything good or bad about my comic yet!
--------------------

man, can't say i have your problem. i get an underabundance of visits and page views a day. averaging at about 50-60 of each per day. it's been like that with a few fluke days here and there since i started with the Space back in july.
------------------

Frankly, I agree with you. The problem is this... the companies that provide Keen with ads allow us to plug in a "default" banner in case they fail to serve us with a paying ad. These companies mirror their servers, and when we rotate our banners, it takes something like a day or two to rotate the image off of all the mirrors, even though the URL goes immediately.
The result is that over the weekend you'll see the Schlock banner, but clicking it will give you the MelonPool site (Steve Troop is up next). If we rotated every couple of days, you'd never be getting the site for the banner you clicked on.
The other result is that the Fab Four are building their own ad-delivery system, and when that's online these mirror-lag problems will go away. Hopefully then we can implement a more eye-friendly system of default banner rotation.
I apologize for the intrusiveness of my banner. It works really well, grabbing people's attention right away, and getting them to click, but day after day it gets old.
--Howard

There's something like that on Facelink - they give you the options to select what kind of ads you want on your site.
Daniel
------------------

I actually posted about having this same issue (couldn't really call it a problem... heh heh heh). My comic had been up for about two weeks, and I was suddenly getting about 300 visits a day.
I would blame it on the archives, but I only have two weeks of archives (about 14 comics). I thought it was a glitch, but just in case it wasn't, I wasn't going to piss and moan.
- Bonk
------------------

At the very least, having our own system will make modifying it easier, and Gav et al are pretty cool about implementing our ideas.

------------------
