I seem to be having some problems with the navigation buttons. Now, you won't exactly be able to see the problem until the site gets back up due to the problems that are going on with websites right now, but my navigation buttons aren't showing up. I looked on the tutorial that was added in the Gear and followed all of its instructions. However, the buttons still will not show. Any idea what might be causing these difficulties?
Note: It's kind of important that I get the navigation buttons up, because the blue and purple link text doesn't like my background color, and kind of blends in.

This could be due to several different things. I'll list a few and let you figure it out.
Reason 1:
It could be due to the number of things you have in your archives. If you have less than 10-12 comics in your archives, they may not show up properly. All you need to do is have around 10-12 comics in your archive.
Reason 2:
You may be linking them improperly. You should have all of the images in the /public_html/images/ folder. They MUST be named as follows (but they can be as .png, .jpg, or .bmp):
first_day.png
first_day_ghosted.png
previous_day.png
previous_day_ghosted.png
next_day.png
next_day_ghosted.png
last_day.png
last_day_ghosted.png
Now, since you've read the Gear and whatnot, I'm assuming you know what each one does. But they MUST be named these file names and be placed in /public_html/images.
Reason 3:
If you are attempting to link them manually, it's not going to work. You just need to put in the:
***previous_day***
etc tags in place of where you want them.
If you are still lost after this, post again and I'll see what I can come up with.

Um ... actually - the button images need to go into the workspace/images folder in order to work properly. (Tag tutorial in the Wiki)
If you put them straight into the public_html/images folder then they won't work. Other than that little detail, follow the rest of Phoenix's advice...

Don't use the Gear (even though all the welcome emails and stuff say to use it) as it's mostly old and/or outdated information. Use the CGWiki instead.
On the page that explains all the keentags it tells you how to use the previous / next buttons.
THe "ghosted" ones are for when there's no more in that direction. So if you were at the very first comic, the "previous" wouldn't link to anything. If you have no images (just using text links) then they simply don't show up, but if you have an image for the button then you can have a different image to show "no more this way".
For example, you can see here that the "next" button is light gray instead of dark gray to show there's no next comic, and back at the first one the "previous" arrow is light gray.
However, if you want to do this, on your index you need to put a direct link to the next_day_ghosted.jpg image as it doesn't work for some reason.

Odd...it's always worked for me. That's where I've put them. *Shrug*...I don't use /workspace/images/ at all. But don't listen to me. He's been around for longer.Dr Neo Lao wrote:If you put them straight into the public_html/images folder then they won't work.

It does work, but I should have said "they won't work straight away".
I *think* that if you put them in the public_html/images folder then the server ends up copying them to the workspace/images folder anyway. It's happened the one time I put them into the public section but it took two or three updates before they started showing.
But the workspace/images folder is where they're supposed to go.
