Help, I can't log in
Help, I can't log in
I made a comic about a month ago, uploaded some pages, and left it to sit.
After spending ages trying to find the corrct log in page I now can't log in.
I have tried to change my password twice, and activated the new password.
However every time I log in the next page just says "This page needs authentication, please return to log in"
I've tried to go through my security settings and put them right the way down to minimum security, but it still doesn't work.
what's going on?

Is this happening when you're logging into site admin? If so, are you using this address? http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/ Also are you using your FORUM log in and password first? Once you log in using your forum log in and password, it will ask for the name and password of your comic account.
If it's not that, ignore me.

No, I couldn't get that one to work ever. I was trying to use the one you get through via the lost password page. I only just made the forum account in order to post this query.
what you said was right though. One I used my forum log in on that page I can use that admin menu instead. I don't know, maybe the pages I were trying to use have been taken down/don't work any more.

How many? If you have four or more strips in your account, then it won't be deleted....uploaded some pages...
Haven't heard of this problem before. Have you tried:"This page needs authentication, please return to log in"
- login in from a different computer?
- totally shutting down all your security programs? (A little risky)
- Login into the Wiki? (Which also uses your forum name / password)
If you can log into the forums (and I see you can), then you should be able to log into the Site admin page.
There was a spate of accounts a short time ago that had a lot of difficulty getting into siteadmin, and I don't think that issue has been properly resolved.
Just to repeat the basics, you go to the Site admin page, put in "Tileira" as the username and your forum password and that should log you in. At least, it's supposed to...

It sounds like the old siteadmin. That's the message it gives when you log in incorrectly, if memory serves. In that siteadmin, you log in with your FTP name and password, though I wouldn't be surprised if they have taken it down. It's quite depreciated.Dr Neo Lao wrote:Haven't heard of this problem before. That's what I figured...
The truth is, that siteadmin is depreciated... we call it the "old one," and it hasn't been in use for about a year.
Instead, go through the little "Login" button at the bottom of the screen (or click here). This siteadmin uses your forum name and password, and you "add a comic" with your FTP account's name and password. If you have problems getting into that one, there's a list of fixes in the FAQs.

Part of the problem is they've not updated that email in a long time. I just joined a few weeks ago and got the same links in my welcome email. I only found out how to log in by checking the forums and the tutorials. At least it's not your faultkatemuchron wrote:http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com:8080/ ... eb-ftp.cgi

Definitely use this link: http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/ and use your forum name and password for your initial login, THEN it will ask for your comic name and password.
I'm going to drop a note to the admins about the links. It's very confusing for new members to be sent links that no longer actually work.

Ok I am somewhat of a veteran and I am having a huge problem now. I have beenposting new stips for months now, but through the login site. My FTP info has not changed, but I have not been able to login to it for the longest. I want to delete a strip now and I am tryong to update my page and make it new. Any suggestions. It just keeps tying and says cannot login over and over. I use Smart FTP.

1: Verify that SmartFTP is still using the correct login details. Some software willsimply remember it and you just log on, so make sure that the login / password is actually correct (maybe someone else changed it in the software?)
2: If re-entering the details manually fails, try it with a different program (such as the webftp available on the CG server, I forget the link but I think it's in the Wiki).
3: Check to make sure that the port # on the SmartFTP is set correctly. I think the default is 220, but I'm not sure if the default works with CG or if you have the option to set it to automatic. If it's been set / changed incorrectly then you might be trying to log into the mail port instead of the comic port or something...
4: Did you install any new software around the time that it stopped working? If you don't remember (and I'm pretty sure that you won't) then try this: go to a different (trusted) computer, install SmartFTP (or use an existing ftp program if available) and try to connect to your account from there.
a - if you can log in, then the problem is with your computer.
b - if you can't log in then the problem is with your account (or with your login details).
If none of those help, can you request a new ftp password or is that forum passwords?

Siteadmin login
Help?
My regular site username and password work fine. My forum password works if I'm just trying to log into the forum, but will NOT work with the Siteadmin login. I can't change the time for the auto update, or get it to manually update, because I can't access Siteadmin... what's going on?

Are you loggin into http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/ or the old one? You'll know if it's the old one because it'll say keenspot instead of comicgenesis or it'll have :8080 on the end.
Don't use the old one (which is the one the welcome emailk tells you to use), make sure that you use http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/ instead.

Siteadmin login
That is the site I've been trying. I log in, and it just takes me back to the same screen, with the login fields emptied.
All of my other logins (regular forum, FTP login) work fine.

Clarinet: This may sound weird, but I once had that problem and found it resolved itself when I opened it with a different browser. Then it opened fine in my regular browser. I have no Idea if the switch made the difference or if there was some glitch that I just coincidentally happened to overcome. (I also cleared my cache at some point.)

When are they going to fix the welcome email? I am SO glad I came to the boards or I never would have known I had the wrong address. Fortunately, the correct address is also linked from the gear site too but, it would help all newcomers if the welcome email had the correct information plugged in.Dr Neo Lao wrote:
