Aldus Maycombe is absolutely gorgeous, so if you started out mediocre that gives hope to the rest of us as well.Keffria wrote:Well, it's painful to look at my own first stuff, but I find it inspiring to see amazing artists who started off at about my level of artistic mediocrity.

Indeed, mine's a cover page, as well, so here's technically the second page:

It now has a pro-log: http://themortician.comicgenesis.com/d/20060728.html
But it starts on what is marked as page "1" of the first chapter, originally.

Hmmn. You can take mine as a bad example. I started a color comic in poor quality black and white for 'story reasons'. Interesting idea, but terrible for attracting readers.Joel Fagin wrote:I'd rather not go into detail. I'm looking for examples of good and bad beginnings but also reasons why they are.

Im really new at this, so my current comic is my only and first comic. It's about three months old now, but I update 5-7 times per week and I can already see a big difference in it. I keep tweaking little things, making it easier to read.

Sigh... I know full well that my first comic is the ultimate "bad webcomic beginning" cliche...
But, there it is, and I'm not one to retcon.

This first link is the VERY first comic I did of Niece Web...
http://www.nieceweb.com/orig/20050723.html
and this is the first comic when I started Niece Web over. It's functionally the same as a first comic, but in reality its the 85th comic I did...

OMG POORLY HAND-WRITTEN TEXT DUMP
I have no problem with being used as a bad example, for the record.
Especially if you count the second page as the real first comic. -_-;

yeah. I think this is exactly a mediocre beginning-neither particularly bad, nor particularly good. http://strangeemployment.comicgenesis.c ... 61014.html
It doesn't really push you into wanting to read more, which is bad, but at least most people I have asked don't think it makes you want to stop reading.

Okay.

My first page is a totally different mood and setting from the rest of the comic.
