I think it's also a bad idea to call how he lived his life foolish, just because it was risky. He wasn't stupid, he was brave, and he lived and died on his own terms. It's too bad that fate finally caught up with him but it really is inspiring that he accomplished so much before that. I hope the same could be said of me someday.

There was a great editorial cartoon in the Herald Sun paper (Victorian paper) about Irwin. Featured a small crowd of Australian animals looking stunned, sad and lost with the crocodile standing at the back just saying 'Crikey...'
It didn't escape our notice around the staff room table that the sting ray wasn't present...

it's sad to hear, i was never a really huge fan of the man but he did great things and frankly he survived a lot of things i never thought he would.

I was told not to create a seperate thread to this, so copy and paste:
Call it lack of judgement, or call it a startling illustration of the darkness that flows in my veins, but there's no denying that what I was writing in the Steve Irwin thread was wrong and irresponsible. I want to apologize to everyone who I had involved in my tirade, especially Nanda (Who draws my favorite comic, aside from my own), Robby, and Peppermint Afterlife. I realize that I'm relatively new, and I've been nothing but antagonistic since I arrived on this board, but what I had written in that thread crossed the line, and I am sorry.

Yeah, I really doubt Irwin would want there to be an animosity towards the stingray over this.blackaby wrote:Shoulda been the sting ray saying "Crikey".Dutch! wrote:There was a great editorial cartoon in the Herald Sun paper (Victorian paper) about Irwin. Now, if this was a perfect world, the stingrays would all grow legs and launch an attack on land, only to be faced with an army of TRIFFIDS. These two species would fight for supremacy against the backdrop of a nuclear bomb going fucken supernova.rkolter wrote:I remember going fishing every year for stingrays. They fight like monsters. ... shortly after a comet zooms close to earth, causing everyone who wasn't shielded to become blind.
... the clattering beat of the triffid call... it's coming closer.
"Crikey! This is one of your larger specimens of Triffid. See how it's striking the windshield of my car? If I was out there, I'd be hurting plenty. Isn't she a beauty?"

I tried to post the comic here but for some reason it didn't work. Oh well. Enjoy.
