He's clearly a dangerous old coot, but I think they only qualify as bad bosses if they try to run over their own employees.

I had one boss who's idea of a good time was to try and make employees cry. Particularly young employees, without the job experience to know that they should just quit. I worked at that shop for about a week before I saw this guy throw a screaming fit, just rip into the store manager, shouting abuse and obscenities. The cause of the tantrum? The store owner's minivan had been dinged in an accident. Nothing to do with the store manager.

I got out of there real quick.

I've never been abused like that by an employer. I have a very low tolerance for bullshit. Any time a boss has gotten even remotely abusive, I've said "Fuck this, I've quit better jobs than this one," and left.
