How did that happen? Did you know the artist before hand or did you use your mutant artist control powers?blackaby wrote:I did start out there with an absolutely bleeding incredible artist, though, who created some insanely awesome characters and you know, is just brilliant. I'm pretty sure that helped a lot.
So has anyone ever gotten an artist to work for free?

Actually, there are a few comic writers I'd totally draw for free for because they're brilliant and stuff. If, you know, they were looking for an artist and I had the time.
I confess I usually ignore "Writer looking for artist" posts/ads unless I know the person and like what they do. But then, it's not like I'm actively looking for more projects to steal my preciousss time.

I read them. I find them funny. I often toy with the possibility of stealing their ideas for fun, but then I realise that my own ideas are better.I confess I usually ignore "Writer looking for artist" posts/ads unless I know the person and like what they do.
I'm one of the artists that replied and said yeah sure, I'll draw your comic. Then I got started and realized it was taking a lot longer than when I draw my own stuff, that my own comic was suffering as a result, and that I really needed to clean the house and do the bills. So, though I'm still interested, I'll have to work on this in my spare spare time. Heh, there's a chance it will get done. I plan on living for another 50 or 60 years.
I've offered to draw a comic for my husband before. It would have been called Trevor, the Emo Vampire ;o) I thought that had potential.
Oh, and I'd draw for Remus any day. I'm a big fan

I so want to steal your idea about stealing ideas.mcDuffies wrote: I often toy with the possibility of stealing their ideas for fun, but then I realise that my own ideas are better.

By the way, folks -- this newbie is *mine*. She has a 'get out of The Box free' ticket, and a 'One mauling from Remus to whoever is mean to her' coupon.
Back on topic, though, it's not difficult to get an artist to work with you. The key is to offer money. Buster -- by all appearances a professional artist -- posted just a few months ago exactly what he'd need to work on a comic. If you can promise artists a few hundred dollars a month, I don't think you'd have any problem getting one to work for you. Alternatively, have a track record for setting up sites that generate income, and promise the artist half the profits. Hell, you can even try offering to pay them in sexual favors. Just make sure they get something out of the partnership. Saying 'I need an artist won't somebody please help' isn't going to get you anywhere.
Hey Remus do you have a link to that? I'm very interested in what Buster had to say about that.

Does happen.
Ironically enough, I had it the other way round.
"Man, wouldn't you write something for me?"
and
"You think this kind of comic would fill in a niche? Would you write a script for me to illustrate tis kind of story?"
No kidding. And I'm not an amazing writer and to add only published two online comics before these people came to me :\
And no, I don't fell like "you make the dinner and I open the door". In fact, many artists are great; many of them would probably write something to illustrate. But most artists are JUST that - artists. There is some reason why the writer/illustrator team is a standard in comic creation.
I, for one, can draw a little. But there are people who do it much better and let them do it. I'm just damn happy I managed to have such people by my side willing to co-operate.

Well, I at least am pretty happy with the writer/artisc collab we I got going on. Pip comes up with the scripts and ideas (Although I still chip in if I have anthing that sounds good), and I do all the artwork and site maintenance. I've know Pip for years though, and we're pretty much agreed that I think his writing is awesome and he thinks my artwork is awesome.

I'd known the artist for... shit, well it must be about five years now. We've never met in real life, but we've been friends online for like forever. One day we'll meet up.drowemos wrote:How did that happen? See, that's important because if you don't know them so well, it will be hard to tell them when you think their idea for this one strip sucks, or for them to tell you you need to redraw an entire panel : P Old friends are usually able to handle ego bruises. And long lasting couples, well.. I guess they'd fight, but the make up sex would make it all better ^.^
Well, I am looking for an artist too, as I simply haven't the time to keep "Luna" to a regular schedule, and have dozens and dozens of already written scripts that I haven't time to illustrate.
I know it will be practically impossible to find anyone, especially the RIGHT person, but figured I'd make half an effort.
