***todays_notes***
Okay, I finally got off my duff and wrote ***todays_notes*** into AutoKeen. Here's the lowdown -- and please let me know here if there's problems.
***todays_notes***
Replaces tag with a dated note or three from /workspace/data/notes/.
This tag makes AutoKeen look for todays (in the file's context) notes that go along with that comic in /workspace/data/notes. If that day's notes aren't there, the previous day's notes that exist are used. You can use this in your archives.
For example: You have comics every day. You have these notes in /workspace/data/notes:
20051201.txt
20051225.txt
20051229.txt
The comics for Dec 1st through 24th will have the note for Dec 1st.
The comics for Dec 25th through 28th will have the note for Dec 25th.
The rest of the year will have the note for the 29th.
TO USE: Create a /workspace/data/notes directory -- you can create a /workspace/data directory if you need to. Put your dated HTML fragments in there.
WARNING: YOU CANNOT PUT KEENTAGS IN THE NOTES! They will not be parsed correctly, if at all. This is a limitation of AutoKeen that WolfKeen does not suffer from.

Give me an URL, and I'll check it out. As is, I haven't debugged this yet, so I need the feedback.

One bug squashed in my coding. It should show now.
Do note, putting ***keentags*** in the notes is unsupported and may break at odd random times. This is due to how AutoKeen is built, and there's no easy patch to apply. I may have to make AutoKeen use the same method of applying all tags as WolfKeen uses.
Also, you need to put ***todays_comics*** and the navigation tags in your dailytemplate.html, so folks can use your archives.

Question: is there a tag I could use if I wanted to put commentary with just one specific comic? For instance, I want to provide a corresponding link to a Wikipedia article to explain something mentioned in comic 20060109, but I don't necessarily want it shown for every comic thereafter? I'm doing this now by dropping a TXT file with the same date into my comics folder, but that means the text must appear directly beneath the comic, rather than somewhere else in the web layout.

That's what it's there for, Cortland. You would have to provide commentary for the comic after the comic you wanted to provide commentary with, but this can be a blank file.cortland wrote:Question: is there a tag I could use if I wanted to put commentary with just one specific comic? Er... yikes. Yeah, next time just make a new thread instead of rezzing a 2 year old one.
I'm surprised you don't know that little bit of forum etiquette, Ami.
In response to your question, I'm seeing a note saying
"Daily Comments
'Nother test to see if this thing is working or not with the correct text, slightly annoying I know but it hopefully works alright. This is me rambling, fun stuff. YAY! More rambling and such."
Is that the one you're having trouble with?
EDIT: As an aside... HOLEE CRAP, your art has gotten so much better since I first read Antics!

I'm practicing n__n
And yeah, I knew, but figured it would be bad to make a new thread for such a small problem.
Yes, that is the one, I've uploaded a new .txt file in /data/notes but it's not showing up. I've double and triple checked everything mentioned on this thread but nothing seems out of place but my lost text :~:

If this isn't a problem with the updater, and if you're hard refreshing every time you update, then there's one other thing that might be an issue... if there's already a set of notes for that day, it might not want to upload new ones.
I don't use ***todays_notes*** on my page, so I'm not entirely certain how they work. You might try deleting the current notes (if that's possible) or deleting the index.html altogether and having it generate a new one.
