I'll say yes, because I consier myself straight but do have a slight sexual interest in women and would sleep with one again.
However I'd not really have sex with anyone efor money. NOT my thing

George Bernard Shaw asked an upper class woman at a party if she would sleep with him for ten thousand pounds. She allowed as how yes, she would. Later that evening he asked her if she'd sleep with him for a shilling.
"What in the world do you think I am?"
"My dear, we've already established that. Now we're just haggling on the price."

"It is the difference between the unknown and the unknowable, between science and fantasy - it is a matter of essence. The four points of the compass be logic, knowledge, wisdom and the unknown. Some do bow in that final direction. Others advance upon it. To bow before the one is to lose sight of the three. I may submit to the unknown, but never to the unknowable. The man who bows in that final direction is either a saint or a fool. I have no use for either."

I voted "bi", even though it's more like "bi-curious". I'd sleep with a woman without being paid, anyway (well, some women).

I notice the price has gone down... *grumble*
Of course, this is always going to be a matter of economic situation, for most people.
For myself, while I certainly hope the day will come when I'd tell someone "get stuffed" if they made such an offer, at this point in my life it wouldn't take more than several seconds of thought. The subject male would have to be pretty damned offensive before I could turn down 50k.
As an interesting tangent, of those for whom it's not a variable answer based on economic situation, I would envy some people who could alswer "no" and pity others. The difference would be whether they would also answer no to similar, non-sexual questions... Would you eat a bug for $1000? Would you kick a puppy for $1000? Etc...
If they were simply so immune to the desire for material comforts that they are completely unwilling to put themselves to a certain level of discomfort for any realistic amount of compensation, they might be worthy of some degree of admiration.
If on the other hand, they just think sex is too dirty, or (just as bad) too intimate, private, spiritual, or sanctified to be subjected to the economic consideration we give to essentially every other aspect of our existence... If they're only saying no because they feel trading sex for money is immoral, then I think they have a demonstrably unhealthy view of sex. And that's a little sad.
I've swept floors for money. I've cleaned toilets for money. I've washed dishes strangers ate from for money. I've performed both door-to-door and telephone sales for money. None of those things are any less disgusting, to me, than having sex for money... It's only the price I'm currently willing to accept that separates them.
It just so happens that my threshold level in each case makes me almost unemployable in that field... Nobody is realistically going to pay me a rate I'm willing to accept for that particular kind of work.

I'd have to be bloody desperate to even consider having sex with someone within my orientation for cash ... Against my orientation would probably involve me being in dire straits, indeed. I just don't think it's right to take money for sex -- not unless there's absolutely no alternative.
...
Still, I suppose in all honesty that I'd do it before taking money to assassinate people.

Um... "Demonstrably" means something that can be demonstrated... "clearly apparent or capable of being logically proved." "Unhealthy" means they're sick little puppies.ManaUser wrote:What does demonstrably unhealthy mean, may I ask?

Well. Repressed much? It does my heart good to know you consider taking the life of a stranger for pay to be potentially at least slightly more reprehensible than sex.

Just for your knowledge, I consider murder to be one of the most reprehensible crimes imaginable. It's right down there with rape and getting people hooked on hard drugs, on my shortlist of things-never-ever-to-do.
And not wanting to have sex for cash is not a sign of being repressed. It's a sign of thinking sex should be an expression of love between two people, not a way to pay your electricity bill.

I'd need considerably more than $50K before I'd assasinate someone. It would also have to be someone that I, personally, felt the world would be much much better off without the existance of. I've already been trained to take human life as an occupation the difference would be I'd be doing it freelance instead of for the State.
The reason why the price would have to be significantly higher than $50K is because due to possible legal or even personal retaliation I'd have to be sure it was enough money to move me and my family to somewhere the law couldn't touch us, enough money to ensure none of us would need to work again for the rest of our lives, and enough money to ensure our security against retaliation. So depending on who the target of the assasination was this could require a hell of a lot of money.
Now, if it was the State that was hiring me to perform the assasination this would be different provided I was assured that the State was going to ensure my identity as the assasin was kept secret and that the security of my family against retaliation was ensured and that I would face no legal problems from the act. If that were the case and the target in question was someone I had no moral qualms about being offed then $50K wouldn't be too far away from what I'd do it for. So if CSIS were to approach me saying "we want this target assasinated" and provided me all the tools to accomplish the assasination and I was assured that I wouldn't be sacrificed in the act and that my family would be secure then yeah, we could work out a price.
Of course if CSIS has to approach a crippled middled aged accordionist/cartoonist to get enemies to the people of Canada assasinated, well... that's a pretty sad day for the Canadian spy industry. I'm not exactly James Bond matterial.
Now, what if CSIS came up to me and told me the fate of a free Canada rested upon me sucking down a mouthful of man-cock. Well sometimes you gotta take one for the team. $50K would definetly make it easier to swallow.
Thankfully I can't possibly imagine a scenerio where the fate of my country depends on me blowing the wax off some guy's candle.

When it comes down do brass tacks, we're all whores.
I sell my brain to the higest bidder, and sometimes my body. Hell, there was a job a couple of years back, I constantly travelled, I was miserable, lonely, and I called my handler to let him know I was finished. He said to me "Would an extra $10,000 a year change your mind?" without hesitation I said "Yes, it certianly would."
So, everyone has their price. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar.

I have a long, boring essay to that effect on my OK Cupid profile, except that I allow another two options... Anyone who tells you otherwise is either a liar, a repressed, selfish idiot, or (and I think this one's the most common in category) insufficiently intelligent/educated/imaginative to completely and competantly analyze the situation, and thus capable of deluding themselves until faced with the actual choice.squidflakes wrote:So, everyone has their price. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar.
Exactly. One of the prettiest and most polite ways possible to say "repressed".EoL wrote:...It's a sign of thinking sex should be an expression of love between two people...
It's when you say "...sex should be..." that's the key. You didn't say "I prefer to think of it as..." or "I've found I more enjoy it when it's used as..." you said "should be". That's a value judgement, and whether it comes from religious indoctrination or some other source, it's an attempt at moral autocracy... An artificially created law or guideline of morality.
It's the reverence and/or mystification of a natural act beyond the furthest edges of reality for the purposes of expressing and maintaining an artificially created inhibition. Artificial inhibition. That's what repression is.
As to the sex/kill problem... I'm pretty much in direct alignment with G. Like him, I've also had the job of hired killer before, and given the proper circumstances and security I'd be willing do it again... I'd prefer right of refusal on my targets, though, and you don't generally get that luxury in that line of work. A common line of logic applied to that problem, at least in available lore, is that once the target is designated, they're effectively already dead... Someone is going to take them down, so it doesn't morally matter whether you're the one to pull the trigger or not. I'm just not sure how well I'd sleep at night with that cold comfort.
It's worth mentioning that, all other things being equal (risk of retaliation, illegality, etc.), there are people I'd accept less money to kill than to fuck.
"We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered...."
