Ditto. I can understand lack of PHP and FLASH support (the letter of which was added what, six months ago?) as reasons to shun CG, but the ad, or the waiting time (which, if I understand correctly, has diminished considerably)? Come ON!
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

Cable modem = no wait. Or you're just too impatient.

Good luck with your new hosting situation.

Yeah, I don't think that readers mind one static add that much, I mean, if I don't mind it on dial-up, I don't see why all people with fancy-shmancy cable modems should. Of course, that's as long as they don't scream, beep, expand or spy. As for design of the page, adds have became something of the standard element, just like navigation, menu, credits at the bottom. You start to expect them. In fact, on many hosts where there are no adds, I've seen people putting their own banner adds at the top, simply because they are used to the banner at the top.
Though I've seen a few comic sites where banner was taken out for a reason. Those are comics where the entire site partakes in a certain atmosphere of the comic and adding some random image on top might ruin that atmosphere. But those sites are rare, most of us make our sites just to show our comic in a more or less nice surrounding but we don't have some carefully crafter balance going on.

I guess it just depends on what you're willing to put on your site. For me, flash ads are annoying, and not something I'd want on my website. But that alone wouldn't stop me from using comic-genesis. I don't want to have ads that promote government propaganda on my website (which was a recent ad and made me re-affirm my decision not to go with comic-genesis). I also find it intrusive to find out what country I'm from, and to then inundate me with ads from that country. I'm sure whoever thought it up thought it was a great marketing strategy, but I don't like getting ads that feature giant turds (okay, it isn't actually a turd but it sure as hell looks like one ;)) on my webcomic site, when I get enough of it on the television. This latter point might seem silly to most Americans, because the default on the web is to show ads related to American products. However I like getting my non-Australian ads. They're much less annoying.

So yeah, while I don't have a problem with having the above stuff on websites I visit (okay, I'll admit. I do have a problem with it, but the content here at CG is good enough for me to ignore it), the idea of having it on my website doesn't exactly thrill me. And the idea of having ads for government propaganda on my website turns my stomach. That alone is enough to make me definitely not want it on my website. I feel strongly about politics, and I (strongly) believe my government is lying to pretty much everyone. I'm not going to help them spread their lies if I can help it.

Just my 2 cents. If I wasn't Australian, I wouldn't have noticed the Australian ads, so it's quite likely I wouldn't mind them so much.

Elephant sense...tingling!

I thought the giant turd looked more like a guy who was bitten by a radioactive elephant, myself.

...what was this ad? I can't see any advertisements on my browsers - just pink space usually - so I have no idea what I'm advertising.

Yeah, they only recently started showing up for me at all. Thankfully, the annoying "talking" ones aren't among the ones that do. The pop-up ads for the no-doubt-virus-ridden emoticon packs I get from other sites are the worst.

Are you still living in Australia? (I thought you'd moved to somewhere in Asia?) If so, you've heard of the Work "Choices" legislation, right? Well there was a banner for that here a week or two ago.

Still living in Australia, heading for the UK on November 29. Yeah, I've heard of Work "Choices"... eugh. Can see why you chose not to be hosted here, then! Luckily I think only about 30 at most of my reg. readers are Australian, and they're all fanatically left-wing anyway.
