oh yes. im a douchebag, and i dont deny it!

Im also, as i said, being honest.

As to it being an important topic... well, somewhat, but its not something thats going to come up often at all. there are PLENTY of comics out there that are straight rip offs of something else, but it doesnt take a lot of changes to be made so that nothing can be done about it.

There are a lot more cases of people working along similar lines of thought. People have similar ideas all the time, particularly when they are derivative of someone elses work. (how many people style themselves after jhonen vasquez, or try and do a megatokyo?)

Im not saying that its a bad thing to be influenced by people, but people with similar interests are likely to be influenced by similar things, and i beleive that the vast majority of cases "OMG BEING RIPED OFF" are actually coincedence.

as for me being a douchebag, yes, i am. particularly when certain buttons are pressed. BUTTONS.

Wow... so I'm an attention whore now..... shees All I was originally doing was asking for suggestions on what I should do if indeed someone is riping off my site... I haven't yet seen the site but as stated earlier I might not even post it... I'm trying to take care of this myself and I wasn't really trying to rally a brigade...

And as far as you not liking my comic.... Hey whatever... There's enough people out there that do like it that it over shadows your meager opinion... and if you really don't like this thread that much and think it's a waste of time then, post somewhere else to someone who might care...

As far as the other info goes I'm very happy to see what others think of this situation.... There has been some really good feed-back so far and I'll keep you updated on whatever happens!

:Edit: You know getting flack from someone that doesn't even have a comic just doesn't hold water.... Go bother someone else....

For a moment, I thought "Well there's civilised and dignified respond" and then you do and ruin it with that edit.

...

Anyway, if I had to guess, I'd say that it's probably a similar thing but nothing near the ripoff. After all, we're talking about a comic that your friend thought he saw because someone else was reading - or something like that. Talk about word of mouth.
People don't tend to rip off us little guys. They rip off bigger, more popular comics. Why should someone rip me off when they have "It's Walky".
In any case, it'd be interesting to see the actual site, if nothing then to prove Shinedog wrong about the attention whoring theory.

why would having a comic matter? This isn't about comics it's about whether or not someone stole your idea. And idea's aren't something that only exist in comic form. It's a creative property, just like a novel or a painting or a song or invention.
It's not like someone who doesn't have a comic doesn't belong in the discussion. That would be like keeping people on the forum who aren't part of the comic community stay in off topic...they aren't many I see that don't have a comic but they are here.

My edit was based on ShineDog complaining about my "whining" that someone was riping off my comic... since he doesn't have a comic of his own it just felt a lil more meaningless...

What I'm trying to say is that it's easy to say that "it's no big deal" when you don't have something of your own that can be stolen...

Eh maybe my edit was rude... Just after reading the other posts I felt a bit provoked and it was early in the day.... appologies to whomever I offended...

If fact, contrary to the popular belief, no legal action is required, nor you need to bother with a real lawyer. If the guy ignores your cease and desist letters, send him a mail from some different mail pretending to be a lawyer or get a friend to do that. You can easily find templated for real legal letters and credentials that look like real ones. That usually scares them out. There's no way he can check if it is a real lawyer or not, and it's perfectly legal anyway.

Hush, everyone.

i DID have a comic, but i removed it because it didnt meet my standards. new one is on its way ;)

I might as well explains whats driving me here, call me an asshole if you want, because i know its true.

I havent got a problem with people doing comics, who, in my opinion, suck, and actually compared to many, Ded End isnt too bad. Go ahead! its no skin off my nose, and if you enjoy it, then good for you, because isnt that what this is all about? enjoying what you do?

What irks me, though, is when people get inflated ideas of where they stand, with Eff, this was evident from day one, when he was blabbering about a shop when he had 3 pages up. To be concerned with setting up a shop before you have 3 pages online says things to me. nasty things. things that make the shiny URG. But yeah, every post i see from eff seems to be something involving where hes got some massively inflated idea of where his comic stands, (20 uniques per day, cmon, odds of someone... riping you off are small, and odds that you or your friends ever stumble across the ripe is even smaller, theres a hella lot of comics out there) and i cant help but be annoyed by that.

Im sorry its just me ^_^

But yeah, by all means, prove me wrong, i got a hat here, and i shall eat it!

Still no link though.

Shinedog's done the same comic 15 times or so.

Well, there's no reader cap on something being stolen. As long as one person's read it, it could be stolen. Also, having more readers than someone doesn't automatically make you better than them.

But I do agree that Ded has a tendency to overreact. That doesn't give anyone free reign to be a jerk.

Actually to a certain degree I do agree with ShineDog, althought one could put things a little more polite. As said before even if it turns out this guys friends were winding him up we still have a usefull post with info on what we can all do if our precious comics are being ripped off.

Oh and I'm pretty sure freedom of speech gives everyone a free reign to be a jerk :-?

Allright, I think we're all in agreence that free will, free speech, and free mcnuggets give everyone the right to be a jerk.

We in agreeance here? Yes...you over there...everyone allright? Sound good. We can all agree to be jerks? Yes? No? The people in the corner? We all agree?

GOOD.

Now if you're GOING to be a jerk, don't be surprised if someone grabs your balls and twists ever so gingerly to try and snap them off.

I mean, that's what all this free speech stuff is all about? YES?

You can be a snarky bitch, but that means I also reserve the right to break out the chairleg of truth on your rather soft and tender bits.

Sound good?

Thank you.
