Most comic sites have SOME sort of talk place, but how do you make some sort of talk automatically update on the page with a code? Does it have to do with the storyline thing? And if so, how do you install it and how do you list the data in dropdown.txt?
Another thing is, is it possible to install 2 different dropdowns? (as in for 2 different people talking).
Ranting
The storyline dropdown is for linking to specific places in your archives.
If you want something on the main page that auto updates so you can post info on it, either get a 3rd party solution like blogger or use this tag :
***include myrant.html***
And put a file in /workspace/webpages/
called myrant.html
Inside it put A FRAGMENT OF HTML, not a real html file. Just the html you want to appear there. For example :
myrant.html conatins EXACTLY this info :

Man do I like to rant! But you should look at this site here : SCV!
It's soooooo cool!

(END OF FILE - Do not include this line)
Then, whenever you want to update it, just upload a new version of myrant.html to your workspace/webpages/ directory and the next time it updates, you should get a new rant on your front page.
Note : Sometimes it takes 2 updates to get one of these through because the updater does your index BEFORE it updates the old version of your myrant.html.... So often it's a good idea to do a manual update after you upload a new rant.
------------------

Sure.
Post it as an html file in the comics directory.
Put 20010910.gif as your comic (for example)
and 20010910rant.html as your rant, just like above! These both go in the /workspace/comics directory.
Then, on the 10th, it will put up both your comic and your rant, and archive them together as well. Simple as that.
Comics appear in alphabetical order when you have more than one for any given day.

------------------

So is
***include myrant.html***
a specific tag, which always includes myrant.html or the YYYYMMDDrant.html file? Or is it just a general ***include something.html*** tag?
------------------

It appears to be a generic "myrant.html", with no date attached. I, personally, would ask Howard Tayler (Schlock Mercenary) for info on how to get the rants thing going properly, he happens to use both styles of rant.
EDIT: Clarification
Vorn http://tonyanddave.keenspace.com
[This message has been edited by Vorn The Unspeakable (edited 09-15-2001).]

I seem to have figured it out...
Putting in the tag ***include myrant.html*** will include the html file myrant.html.
However, putting a file named YYYYMMDDsomething.html in your comics folder will cause that file to be included along with the comic on that date.
------------------
