Oh boy. Oh boy oh boy oh boy. I hate drawing with a touchpad, but today's comic and tomorrow's represent The Best I Can Do With An Interface As Annoying As A Touchpad.
I'm on the laptop in California, missing my 10 Megabit connection, my 21-inch monitor, and my wife. (She's buying a wedding present before we go to the reception tonight.) But I'll get back Sunday afternoon, so artwork from that point on can only be blamed on laziness. Which, I might add, is still a powerful force in my work. Or lack thereof.
At some point, I'll have a scanner that can connect to more than just the laptop, at which point I may start drawing these comics on PAPER of all things, and scanning them in.<P>------------------

TouchPad artwork
Sunday's comic had me falling out of my chair laughing. (Or maybe it was a slight stroke. I dunno. I <I>AM</I>getting pretty old...) Even using a touchpad, your artwork is funny. I love Clarence's face. Hee hee.<P>Randy, what kind of a scanner do you need for your PC? I mean, why does your scanner only work with your laptop (if that's what you were saying in your post)? Can you use a Mustek TwainScan 600 II SP? Mine is sitting here getting dusty because my new computer doesn't have a serial port. Or something. I screwed up, anyhow.<P>
It's wacky.
My scanner is a VistaMax 2000 something or other, and it's USB. I have USB ports on the laptop and the big computer, but the big computer runs Windows 2000, whereas the scanner's drivers only work for Windows 98.
[expletive]
I DO have a serial port, as a matter of fact, and would LOVE to try your scanner. Hell, I'd trade you scanners if you like, because I don't see myself getting much use out of this puppy ever, cuz the VistaJerks don't seem to be too adamant about updating drivers. "2000" indeed.
I'm SO glad you liked the comic. I told Rebecca about it, and she said it wasn't funny. I told her she was smiling, and she reiterated that it wasn't funny. Then I told her she was REALLY smiling, holding in a laugh, and she said the laugh was at ME, not at the comic. Silly wife, Comix are for kids.
I hope folks don't sit there going "Jack-in-the-box... like the burger place? Is there a pun here somewhere? Hmmm....."
When are you coming up to Utah next?<P>------------------

Randy, what IS the brand and model of your scanner? I wanna look.<P>I must confess that I thought there was some kind of pun with Jack-in-the-Box the burger place. I'm glad there wasn't one because that would have meant that I didn't get the joke!<P>------------------

Randy, I'm sure you've already talked to your lovely wife this afternoon, so you know that the Mustek is now in her possession, awaiting the flight back to you.<P>Hope everything works as well for you as it did for me back before I got talked into Windows 2000 and then My Whole World Fell Apart, and then I went out and fell for a studly Italian, Antonio Compaq Presario, who led me to believe he had a nice big serial port, but Oh he was just one of those lying ne'er-do-wells who are only out for one thing: to get me to part with my money. And his hard drive is only slightly larger than the last one I had.<P>Men!<P>Where was I? Oh yeah. So, by Thursday night, maybe you can scan some funny into our lives.
Mine's an Umax Astra 2000. (Vistascan is the software -- oops.) And yeah, there are "updated drivers" out there, but they "don't work" at "all."<P>Thanks so much Karen. I'm going to have pretty pretty art.
Now I'll need to go buy proper art supplies. DOH!<P>------------------

Actually, I *did* make the Jack-in-the-Box connection, but I didn't think it was part of the joke. It just occurred to me as an alternate punchline.<P>You know what I think makes this comic? (This particular one, I mean -- not Randym Thoughts in general.) The combination of the thought balloon, the caption, and Randy's private little comment on the side. I giggled at the drawing and thought balloon. I chuckled at the caption. But I laughed at the comment... I was thinking "okay, so I'm not the only one who thinks perhaps Randy's a bit odd today... Randy thinks so too."<P>--Strange/Dave<P>------------------
Neurotic -- sane, but unhappy about it.
