Next time I'll be prepared for those reverse psychology entries. I guess I focused too much on my own kind of deviousness.

On a more positive note yay #5 wins!

Here is the story of #5, otherwise known as SuperAria: On Thursday the ninth, in the afternoon, I decided to order my Cintiq. On Friday morning I saw the contest and came up with an idea and started sketching. As I was working a large package arrived at the door! Gasp! It's my Cintiq already! Lucky me!

So Aria is the first drawing I've done on a tablet, digitally inked and everything. I had to keep quiet, as my magical new abilities could prove a giveaway. I was also afraid people would notice I mentioned I had a book on crime noir comics I was using for another project; there's a pic in my gallery of a girl with claws, and I mention it's something I'm doing with a coauthor; and there's a copyright claim embedded in the picture with his name in case of theft. I have fun being paranoid.

The other pic I did more just for fun; I had a feeling people might guess it. I've done a lot of manga so I drifted into a more familiar style than I intended.

Gave you away for round 2. So nyaa! Image
Well, I didn't commit to the first one either...
Meh, so long as no one managed to guess both of mine at the same time, I'm satisfied. =D
(Which is surprising, seeing as I seem to be the only one that uses PNGs.)

Now that's over with I want people to explain why, in a game where you're trying to fool people into thinking you didnt draw something, you thought I would draw myself?

that's just stupid.

I think this year's contest turned out pretty well. The participation wasn't at the level of previous years, but it was also more fun to guess. I remember being somewhat irked last time, since I felt people were trying too hard to be ambiguous -- things like people drawing cartoon animals, realistic animals, watercolor landscapes, rear views, squiggly abstract lines, etc.

But anyways, here were my thoughts on the entries:

#1: Not sure why I thought it was Eve, although it probably had something to do with the long bangs and large/prominent eyes which are somewhat representative of her typical stuff. She's also pretty good with coloring/shading and I observed that the shadows seemed very accurate. I also didn't recognize the hatching, and Eve doesn't normally hatch, so...

#2 & #6: #6 was pretty obviously IV, especially from his standard 3/4th shot and the flimsy, rubbery arms he tends to draw. #2 was less clear, and could have possibly been an IV imposter, but it suggested IV a lot in its strict resemblance to #6 (particularly with the scribbly lines on it, which are similar in #2 and #6).

#3: Was pretty easy to guess since KWill did his normal inking style.

#4: I wasn't sure if mine would be too hard or too easy, and I guess it turned out about right. I was concerned that the facial features (besides the mouth) were too abstract, but I also used my normal inking style so I thought that might help. (Although, I haven't done much inked stuff recently besides the 5-page "Technical Difficulties" short back in July.)

#5: This one definitely stumped all of us, heh heh. I guessed Eve mainly because I thought the linework seemed similar to hers. I should've realized when Wendy guessed me for it that she was just covering for herself, but I half excused it for her newness (and lack of familiarity with my style/ability) and also half embraced it as flattery that someone thought I drew better than I do. (I'm so conceited. )

#7 & #11: I switched the artists of these two: it seems KWill and McD ink more similarly than I thought. Although, I think KWill might've been trying to imitate McD's style (where it seems McD was going more after Claude's).

#8: I definitely considered that it might be CJ, but what ultimately convinced me it was Wendy was the character's ear which was drawn exactly how Wendy usually draws ears.

#9: My first impression was that it was Cope (as McD probably intended), but what mostly gave it away for me was the handwriting which reminded me a lot of McD's writing. So, I recommend for future contests that people try to avoid including their own handwriting, even if it's just a few words like here.

#10 & #12: Switched these as well. I thought #10 was actually M&M trying to impersonate Pimpette, so I guess I kinda outsmarted myself there. And #12 completely stumped me. Bleh!

Good times, good times. Let's do it again next year (or maybe earlier, heh heh).

This is true, but keep in mind that while I couldn't lose on mine, I couldn't win on it, either, and mine was one of the easiest guesses (shown by 3 out of 4 getting it in the second round).

Although, you definitely get props since you haven't been around CG as long I have, so GJ on that.

1. It's funny, Even transformed her style well (except for shoulders which would have been the only giveaway for me) but somehow people guessed it was her, some for character reminding them of her, and perhaps it just looks like something Eve would draw outside of her normal style.
2. and 6. IV's were totally easy. If there was nothing else, they could be guessed by anatomy and character's posture.
3. I've seen Kwill draw in this style elsewhere. It's that angular half-profile cheekbone line which is similar on both his chibis and his more realistic drawings, that would be a giveaway for me.
4. I wouldn't guess LC by style, but this kind of nightmarish imagery is in his usual scope.
5. I'd never guess this. It's something great: when artist has a style she's very comfortable with, but unknown to us. Otherwise artists will usually try to experiment and draw something for the first time, since everything from their usual repertoire is already known from doodles thread and such. In earliest incarnations allwe had to judge by was styles used in comics.
7. and 9. Actually I returned to a style that I was sporting long ago, it's a sort of Paul-Klee-inspired style. If you check my old "mcDuffies", you find this, for instance, in the place where I'm trying to mimic classic painters. Flat blocks of colour, however, were attempt to throw it off to Claude. I'm psyched that noone guessed it, I'm usually not good at disguising myself. #9 was a throwaway entry, I wanted to add another one but couldn't come up with anything better so I worked with my usual tools and didn't disguise it much, the only difference was that I was slightly trying to mimic Mercury Hat (and not Cope).
8. I might have guessed this.
10. I'd never guess this and I'd probably guess Steverules too.
11. Theme might have tipped Kwill off.
12. I would have totally guessed Claude, for large, round, moonlike faces and tiny eyes, and sloppy colouring.

Everyone's a winner. Course, if we really wanted one name picked out, we should have defined who's the winner beforehand. If it's percentages, then the winner is LC, and if it's number of hits, it's a tie. Of course you can always say that in first round you had zero miss rate and therefore you're the overal winner, if you want.
You should have sent an entry, though, to ease guessing for folks a bit. :P

Wow, it really kinda looks like you.
In next round I'm definitely drawing myself in some unfathomable style.

Number of entries aside, it's a shame not many people were guessing.
Last year a portrain was a requirement, but then some people drew portraits without a face, or turned under some ambigiuos angle. Not quite in spirit of the contest.
Cartoon animals are ok though, I think they're a valid transformation of the drawing style.

Drat. And I tried so hard to imitate Komi's shading and linework... =/
I was half expecting people to realize I'd drawn her before, but then I thought people wouldn't have paid enough attention to the minute details so I was safe.

Taken straight out of my Communist propaganda book on uniforms, actually.

From experience, it's better to wait a bit. Otherwise, people's interest drops exponentially.
