I would say it's harmful, especially because it doesn't really serve any useful purpose anymore. Who in their right mind is going to wade through that?
If you have the big dropdown, folks, remember: you don't have to have it on your site. The specialised genre dropdowns and the lovely Keen newsbox are much more useful.
------------------

That does seem to make a lot of sense... now if only I could find a specialized dropdown that fit my comic.
Although my characters live on Earth... which is a planet, and therefore in space... maybe we're sci-fi by default!
--Strange/Dave, thinking wishfully
------------------

Apologies if anyone's pointed this out before, but wouldn't it reduce the load on the Keenspace servers a bit if the keenspace drop-down was replaced with a static image that linked to an index page? It's not too bad in Keenspot because of the number of comics there, but pretty much every single Keenspace page has 37k of drop-down embedded in it. This almost always doubles the size of the initial HTML download (which is rarely going to be cached, I assume). I don't know how many page impressions are being served through Keenspace, but my guess is a fair amount.
A fair amount x 37k must surely equal quite a bit of bandwidth?

Useful - Maybe, harmful - probably not. It's more like a bludgeon. For me, it's okay, I loaded my site with as simple and as minimal settings as I can just so that the page loads faster. I'm not sure whether that jscript site navigation is a good idea, but so far, I like it.
~herr x http://ntnation.keenspace.com

I've actually gotten quite a few hits from what seems to be the general dropdown, believe it or not.
------------------
