Having infinite genders is for all practicality the same as having no genders. Gender in such a society would be so individualized that nobody would appreciate it without being able to compare it to another gender system.

The best non-professional PoV I've heard on this topic comes via Ursula Le Guin's "The left hand of darkness".

If memory serves the people of the planet in question change genders based on a hormonal cycle. They have very little if any sense of static gender. The insights are... interesting and at the same time point to a way that gender can be "infinite" or with many possibilities while maintaining Swordsies assertion that more possibilities would not be practical.

I swear this place must be getting to me, because one of the first things I thought when I read about a peculiarity of their biology was: 'so if someone perverted had sex with these guys, they'd be able to do oral and anal sex at the same time'...
