Hey everybody, I'm new here, and I wanted to drop in and tell you about my webcomic, George. Here's a brief synopsis...George is centered around a fairly normal freelance cartoonist, George, and his circle of oddball friends. The strip often deals with computers and technology, though a myriad of light-hearted subjects are commonly explored. It takes place in the fairly small, fictional town of Perkton, located in the heart of California.
I've got a fairly large and growing archive going, but very recently I changed my coloring style a bit to give the strip more vibrancy. Also, I made the panels 20% taller, which really reduces the "cramp" factor. Many more comics with this new style will be rolling out in coming weeks.
So, um...that's it! Happy to be here!
George Armstrong winds up his pitch...

At first glance, there's just a few things I'd recommend. First, rather than having to go to the Archive page to navigate, the nav buttons really hafta be on the homepage. Second (and admittedly, this is a big personal pet peeve of mine), I'd lock the background rather than having everything "float" over it when you're scrolling (I've always hated that effect, hated it like I hate Ben Affleck still making movies, and that's some serious HATE!). I think you could modify the size of that main header, too, so your comic is a bit more "above the fold" when people first come to visit the site or view the archives.
I really like what you've done with the cast pages and the "behind the scenes" look at making the comic.

Thanks for the input, Mark. I'm most intrigued by the notion of putting the nav buttons on the front page. I think that might work really well, so thanks for that tip. As for the background, if I get a lot of people telling me what you're saying, I'll definitely consider locking it again. I personally like the effect...as for Ben Affleck, you must be some sort of psychic-powered superhero. An upcoming strip of mine refers to Ben Affleck movies in a disparaging manner. So at least one thing it sounds like everyone can agree on is hating Ben Affleck movies.
I never understood the hatred some people have for floating backgrounds. But yeah, navigation buttons alongside the comic are usually a given in online comics. I would find the notion of trying to read one without them rather ridiculous. Also, in your latest comic, the way that woman's hair is positioned with her hand in the way made me think she had a beard at first.

Well, JTorch, the way it is now, you go to the Archives page and you've got a smörgåsbord of George waiting for you...but anything to make reading the comics a little smoother and easier. I'll get around to implementing front-page navigation within the next few days. In the meantime, I'll watch my hair placement more closely...

So here's what I did. I put "First" and "Previous" buttons underneath the comic on the front page, which will link you to the first and previous comics, respectively, while simultaneously taking you to the archives. In practice, this has the same benefit as putting the whole comic navigation bar on the front page, while not sacrificing a dedicated archives page. How does it look?
