Comic 100

Post by One post wonder »

I could be wrong, but from the notices I have read, this should be comic 100! Why hasn't someone made a thread about this yet? We must celebrate the comic's success in achieving a nice large round number, and still managing to make every single update great! Good work Alina.
My name made sense when I first thought it up.

I apologize in advance for the inevitable awkwardness.

Go to http://www.weregeek.com instead of the usual weregeek.comicgenesis.com

The Comicgenesis servers are down again, so Alina has re-directed to her backup site.

OMGOMGOMG! Daleks at 10 o'clock high! =D *SQUEEEEEEE!*
Simple Simon met a pieman going to the fair;
Said Simple Simon to the pieman "Let me taste your ware."
Said the pieman to Simple Simon "Show me first your penny."
Said Simple Simon to the pieman "Sir, I have not any!"

Half-elves and golems and nymphs, oh my!

OK, now that I can see it, let me see how many references I can name.
I hope to do well..... On first glance I caught half a dozen....

We've already had Erfworld and Daleks spotted. I'll add some links soon.
OK, starting at the top left and spiralling inward clockwise...

2 Daleks from Dr. Who
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalek

Pintsize from Questionable Content
http://www.questionablecontent.net

Red Robot from Diesel Sweeties
http://www.dieselsweeties.com

Another robot that looks similar to one used by the Amazing Screw-on-Head (but probably isn't)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazing_screw_on_head

Starship Enterprise (can't tell which one, but I'm guessing the first one)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starship_Enterprise

Serenity from Firefly (and of course, Serenity)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serenity_% ... _vessel%29

Mercenary Warship "Touch and Go" from Schlock Mercenary

Unknown Spaceship (I might have been able to guess the ship if I could see more, possible a fighter from the Star Wars prequels)
http://www.schlockmercenary.com

McPedro the talking cactus from Girls with Slingshots
http://www.daniellecorsetto.com/gws.html

Unknown figurine (It looks like an overweight Zuxkuss from Star Wars but I know its gotta be someone else)

Galactus Heroclix mini and/or statue (as seen in recent Cartridge comics)
http://www.cartridgecomics.com/view.php?date=2007-06-25
Oops! After finding the link it wasn't red after all..... Hmmm....

Anyone recognize the other boxes on the walls? They all look like Settlers of Catan boxes to me since those come in three colors (four if you're heathen and count the space expansion). I think that the grey thing sandwiched between the green boxes below Galactus might be Ptolus. ;P

T-shirt with logo (I've got too much 40K in my head for the next section, anybody know?)

display case- Warhammer 40,000 items: Orc wartruk and Dark Angels gothic battleship, various speedfreaks orc minis, Eldar miniatures

display case- Erfworld items: Green Dwagon and Pink Dwagon and two gwiffons, uncroacked minis and two gumps, Lord Hamster and.....I dunno (sorry)
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/erf.html

D&D 3.0 or 3.5 PHB (or PHB II, Complete Warrior/Divine/Arcane/Adventurer/Psionicist/Scoundrel/Mage/Champion)

The rest of this stuff I can only guess at and really don't know.......

Unknown black book with gold trim (I only know a couple of Palladium Limited Editions like that)

Map of a Lake

Map of a kingdom with two mountain ranges

Bright yellow GM screen (Paranoia or D&D 1st Edition?)

A dragon that looks like one of Aylee's many incarnations over at Sluggy Freelance.

Books and products on shelves.......

I think I see a copy of Vampire the Requiem and some of the Star Wars West End Games box sets (big purple ones). BTW, out of all the people in there, the guy with the socks and sandals looks the most familiar.

Alright... top of the bookcase on the left:
Daleks (already been noted) and Pintsize from Questionable Content
(don't know who the other two robots are from)

Top of bookcase on the right:
Starship Enterprise N.C.C. 1701
The Firefly-class ship Serenity
A ship from Schlock Mercenary
and... the Millennium Falcon? (I think; it's partly cut off)

That little starship in the corner that nobody's guessed yet looks like the Ebon Hawk to me (Star Wars spaceship featured in the Knights of the Old Republic games). I got the Erf and Questionable Content references as well, but missed the others.

link for Knights of the Old Republic (Bioware Games):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_of ... d_Republic

They use the same spaceship in Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.

I just noticed what may possibly be a Map of Middle-Earth.
"Justice is the Art of the Thief"
~Socrates~
"Weapons and armor are for those who lack skill, Honor and courage"
~Drunken Monk to a Paladin in the tavern. No bystanders were harmed in the ensuing brawl~

That's what I thought at first, it's a bit obscured though so I didn't guess. Maybe if it had the tell-tale box mountains around Mordor then I'd say Middle Earth. I think it's got a bit to much sea to the south.

When I first looked at it, I thought it was the Outrider, Dash Rendar's Ship from Shadows of the Empire, but it could be the Ebon Hawk as well.

My god you lot are observant, some of those references are near invisible, or I'm just not enough of a geek :(

Do not feel bad. I would not even understand half those references if not for the links. Still, a lot of work must have gone into that last panel.

@CooperNRPG: Actually I don't own either of the KotOR games, somebody who didn't know my (non-geeky) little brother very well gave them to him. This is where girlhood is a disadvantage: people who barely know young men and feel obligated to send them gifts for birthdays and holidays send computer games and LEGOs, people who barely know young women send them dolls, cute pink clothes, and cosmetics.
