I'm a complete n00b when it comes to ftp.

Post by Londonunderground »

Hi. I signed up a few weeks ago, I've been following the cadets manual. I'm using Smartftp, I click on New Remote Browser and enter the following information, like I'm told:

But this keeps coming up:

Am I doing something wrong, or is because of the problems that have been occuring with CG?

Try connecting to host siteadmin.comicgenesis.com

no path

normal user and password

That way it takes you to the root, and you can navigate from there? If you still don't get it, let me know and i'll post you a screenshot of my smartftp (But to be honest, i just use the built in one on CG as i cant be arsed loading smart every time.)

Are you using your FTP userid and password, or your forum username and password? I only ask because you post as londonunderground and you are trying to ftp as londonunderground.

Denial is not falsification. You can't avoid a fact just because you don't like it.
"Data" is not the plural of "anecdote"

I've tried it, but I still keep getting the same response. When I tried the CGftp the other day it seemed to be down for some reason.

No, I've passed the test and everything, I just thought I'd have the same username on the forum to save hassle.

Hi~!
I have exactly the same problem with getting this '530-error' with SmartFTP (and signed up a few weeks ago too)~
I thought it might have something to do with the server-problems (?) of CG, but I don't know if that's the case... :-?

It's reassuring that someone else is having the same problem, at least it's not just me.

Unless we're both doing something wrong of course.

My smart FTP settings work fine.

Sometimes, it's a matter of using ftp://SITEADDRESS

There's an image of my settings as they're set in my favorites, should anyone be curious.
Please excuse the smartass "password-field" text.

You should be using your comic's subdomain name, the password, and the address: ftp://subdomain.comicgenesis.com

That has never given me a problem... well, except for when the server's being tempermental, but...

My problem is solved by now - it seems it was just a bad password (I did not type it wrong, since I even copied & paste it to make sure I'm getting it right!).
I requested a new password & it worked perfectly now.
So if you still have trouble with loggin into your ftp, try to request a new password too & you might be possibly fine with that. :D

Glad to hear it. I tried that once before but the password facility wasn't working. I've just done it now so I'll see what happens.

Yep! It works. Fantastic. Thanks everyone!
