If you can't handle getting a less than stellar review, you probably shouldn't ask for one. You can't expect a reviewer to like everything, but instead you should be gratefuly for hte extra hits his/her reviews will generate for you. Half of being an artist is knowing how to deal with criticism.

I say machine's doing a great job. Honesty is not always easy. The comments he makes are constructive and helpful.

I got over it already. I get mad at the moment, I express my feelings about it, and afterwards I feel better. And now I took the constructive criticism and applied to it. ;) I made corrections to my spelling errors.

I think there's way too few. Because some very popular and/or good comics never get reviews. I've never seen a review of Freefall, Fallen Angels Used Books, or A.N.T., and these are professional quality works.

It seems there are only two ways to get reviews on the web. One is to be a socialite, and schmooze your way into the circle of people who commonly post reviews. These reviewers are bloggers who are constantly looking for things to blog about, and they almost exclusively focus their spotlight onto their friends. So befriend them and reap the attention.

Or you can take the second path -- find one of the very few reviewers who takes requests, and ask them to do one for you.

If you're not good at social networking, and you don't want to boldly ask a stranger for a review, then you're not going to get one. If you're lucky, a fan will post a three-sentence blurb that links to your comic on their personal blog. 'Professional' web reviewers work by nepotism or (rarely) by request -- that's it.

An increase in the population of dedicated reviewers can only help this situation, because they'd all start looking around for new things that haven't yet been reviewed.

All the above is just my humble opinion, of course.

I will review any and all comics when asked. I will even review some that don't ask, if I feel I have something to say about it. I don't see why anyone would object though.

Well, I believe what you said is true to a large extent, Remus, but for what it's worth, I have gotten three reviews, and have never asked for one. I have stated I'm OK with being reviewed, I've asked for feedback from readers, but I have never specifically asked anyone to review my comic. I can see why other people would, but I personally do not want my comic reviewed unless someone is genuinely interested in reviewing it.

Oh, and I believe Freefall has been reviwed on Websnark.

Nobody's objecting. :) Just saying that 'The System' sucks. A standard rant of mine.

You never know when you get reviewed. Even Machine here didn't expect someone else to review his work. XP

I emailed you a request, but I'm not sure if it got through, a lot of my mail seems to bounce back lately...

I would also suggest you refrain from reviewing comics with small archives. It just seems stupid to review a comic that has only put out seven strips. And if you feel you must, why not write a shorter review for them until a longer one is justified?

And even though I know you have a huge backlog, I'm going to take the liberty of suggesting comics to review:

Lucid TV

Brink

Gone With The Blastwave

Lucid TV is hilarious. There are some comics that really leave me scratching my head, but other than that, it's a really good shock comic.

I would request a review, but I never update, so there's really no point in it.
This webcomic, seen here is hosted on the free web host Comic Genesis which pretty much proves its not popular.

I'd request a review, but I'm pretty sure he already reads me...

That's good enough.

I agree Shishio. Not about the it being stupid part, but about doing shorter quick reviews of new webcomics. No need in being long-winded when there are only a few strips up. And yeah Dutch, I read your comic!
