I'm Brainstorming new plot ideas. Feed back please!

Post by Jin-roh »

One of the nice things about my "decembre break" is that I get time to brainstorm and write out new plot ideas.

Quick background. My comic takes place on and around a Christian University. Not all of the characters are evangelicals. Not all of the characters even attend. Becca Van Duzen is a very compassionate character who has recently donated her time to a video-game rehab clinic. "Chapel" is something that the Students at the University go to three times a week.

Here's two that I've come up with so far. They're both (as expected) inspired by real life events. I'd like to know what everyone thinks. What would be funny? What strips can stories could you see coming out of these things? What might you add? Oh and I apologize for the bad formatting. I'm cutting these right out of Word and it's not working out to well.

Here's the first one:

Becca Van Duzen gets IM’ed by clueless guy who doesn’t understand that she is not interested.
o This is one of the nerdy guys from the Sunsdale Video Game-Rehab Clinic.
 He thought that she liked him.
 He really thinks of her as a mommy-figure
o This guy was very late in entering puberty because “MMOs cause your balls to shrink anyway” –Andy
o Becca reluctantly tries convincing him that she’s a lesbian, but he just thinks that’s hot.
o Her older brother Seth, who she talks to on the phone, offers to beat this guy up. He lives six hours away in Lodi.
o Becca eventually gets one of the guys to be her fake boyfriend
 Mark Guyer and Andy encourage Mark Collins to do this. Because everybody else knows that he’s always had a crush on her anyway.
 Becca is still oblivious to his affection.
 On their first “fake date” neither one of them has any idea exactly what it is you’re supposed to do.

And here's the second idea:
Strange Female-Pentecostal speaks at Chapel. This an awkward message that uses ultra-sexual language to describe devotional life.
o “Have you allowed Jesus to break you hymen? You must learn to make love to your Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ.”
o Becca, who is not a Christian, does not understand why Jesus would want to have sex with her.
 Upon investigation, she learns that some of her friends go on “Jesus Dates.” She sees one of them at the Coffee Shop.
 “My friend Ian said something about it not making sense because of Jesus’ culture or something…”
o Ian and Andy get on the Radio about it.
 Question of the week, “Has Christianity been made Feminine?”
 Some of the Campus Christian Feminists answer
• They are pissed off that the Female Chapel speaker made Females the “sexed-other” yet again.
• They assert that “God” is genderless and we should talk about a “God/ess”
 Ian asserts that there should be a “masculine” theology to balance out with the “feminine” theology and epistemology.
• Someone calls and says, “what’s epistemology?”
• “I mean, Goddammit, I don’t have a Hymen!”
 Other discontent males call in
• “I mean, does that make me Gay?”
• “How do people get on that anyway? I blame Chapel Programs!”

Why not do both of them? Do the one first, then do the next plot line second.

And have you heard about the new "Left Behind" video game in which to win you have to kill non-believers?

That right there aughta give you tons of brainstorming ideas for the video addiction clinic!

Oh yeah. That's so, so, sad....

But I don't want to milk that cow much longer.

And I do intend to do both. I just need feedback.

I'm going with the first plot, the one about the unwanted admirer.

So...

I'd like to hear from the females. How would you react in such an awkward situation? Becca's experience with guys is limited to her two older brothers. She needs advice, preferably bad advice (becuase it's funnier) on how to blow a guy off.

She could write him a letter saying she is joining a nunnery.
