Son of Reader Stats

Post by Jkandra »

Getting back to the topic of how to interpret reader stats. From what I could gather (before my original Reader Stats thread went down the rabbit hole and got locked out), visits give you an idea of how many people are coming to your site, pages divided by visits lets you see how much they are reading, and Google Analytics is a great way to get additional information.

Okay, avoiding rabbit-holes completely... :)

'Visits' is short for 'Unique Visitors' -- that's the best guess that the web server can make on how many unique people are viewing the web page, based on their IP addresses. That's the score you want to pay attention to the most, if you pay attention to any at all.

You asked for numbers in your other thread. Best I'll do is point you to this old thread where we talked about similar things. But don't worry too much about numbers. They'll make you despair when you're just starting out, but if the internet goes your way then your numbers will climb by orders of magnitude very quickly. Seriously, don't stress about the numbers you get.

Are there any specific questions you still need answered, jkandra?

Thanks. I was originally just looking to get a general idea about what a good range of numbers might be. My finding is that topic is about as radioactive as asking your co-workers what their pay is. I'll first do more extensive searches next time. :-?
