Help

Post by Snowbones »

Hi I'd registered and got the confirmation email about 10 days ago. I did activate the account but have not heard back since. How long should I wait before I become concerned?

Thanks

You should get your account's password soon, if you were not vetoed. What username did you choose?

Help

Post by Snowbones »

Hi thanks for the response. It's working now. I was gonig through the cadet and ensign manuals and perhaps missed something. The index page I load for my main page .. will I name it dailytemplate.html or indextemplate.html?

Thanks for helping!

The main index page is indextemplate. Then, you also have the dailytemplate for comic pages other than the newest one. This is so you can have special stuff on the front page, like a tagboard, and not in your archives.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

Ok I'll try that thanks!

Another question (thanks for your indulgence).
for my ***include*** files, I have a top.html and a bottom.html. After reading the tutorial I still wasn't sure if I would place those two files in the /workspace or the /workspace/webpages.

Also, I have my comic up and the autokeen has run but it did not update my pages. Does it run over the weekend?

Thanks

It does, but it was clogged (see the other topic in this forum). It's been unclogged now and comics should update soon if they haven't already.

You put them in /workspace/webpages, I believe, but as far as I know you can only use ***include*** for one file. You can, however, include that file as many times as you want on the same page.

Thanks! More questions though ...

The main page of my comic http://bayside.comicgenesis.com uses an ***include*** file to display the top portion (which includes the advertisement and then comic title graphic below, with the links to other sites below that.

But when the comic displays, it shows the advertisement correctly for the include file, but it also shows it again above the comic. This is also happening on the pages showing my comics in the archives. Can you tell me how to get rid of the 2nd advertisement so that the only one showing is the one on top (from the include file)?

Thanks for your help

Well, one solution would be to remove the ***advertisement*** tag from your included file and use the include tag only for the comic title and such... Would it break your page set-up?

Yeah unfortunately. I'd like to have the advert at the very top otherwise it splits my main page. :0( It only seems be doing it on the dailytemplate.html and indextemplate.html pages so I believe it's something to do with those pages being transformed out of the /workspace directory. The other pages I have are in the /workspace/webpages directory.

Thanks for the suggestion, though. Anyone else? Bueller?

If you don't have ***advertisement*** on your page somewhere, it puts one at the top. In your case, it finds the ***include*** tag, but doesn't count the one within the include. Does simply putting ***advertisement*** at the top and following it by an advertisement-free ***include*** still kill the layout?

JTorch thanks for the awesome suggestion. I did what you suggested and it put 2 ads on the top, but it was the right idea. Once I put the ***advertisement*** and the ***include_file*** after the <html> tag at the top of the page and before the <head> tag, it worked fine. Just had to figure out how the updater read it all.

Thanks again bud.

more help

Post by Snowbones »

Slowly but surely. But more questions.

1. on the ***calendar*** file I've colored that text white but when it updates on my main page the font is black. I've looked at other sites where the font is white. Any suggestions on how to fix that?

2. Also, I'm registering for a domain name. Who do I contact to get it into the system with comicgenesi?

Thanks!
Curtis

The links in the calendar will be whatever color you set vlink to. Not sure about the plain text.

I'm not sure, but I think you need to contact one of the admins to set up your domain. Try PMing one of these people: Kisai, STrRedWolf.

Your HTML is broken. Seriously!

Take the ***advertisement*** and ***include top.html*** out of between the <HTML> and <HEAD> tags, and put it after the <BODY> tag.

On the domains, check here:

Help

Post by Snowbones »

Hi thanks for responding. I put the tags within the body, but my page still loads with errors. What's happening is that the following code is put at the bottom of the page and the d.im.width is the error:

<script language="javascript"><!--
an=navigator.appName;d=document;function
pr(){d.write("<img src=\"http://t0.extreme-dm.com",
"/0.gif?tag=snowbone&j=y&srw="+srw+"&srb="+srb+"&",
"rs="+r+"&l="+escape(d.referrer)+"\" height=1 ",
"width=1>");}srb="na";srw="na";//-->
</script>&nbsp;<script language="javascript1.2"><!--
s=screen;srw=s.width;an!="Netscape"?
srb=s.colorDepth:srb=s.pixelDepth;//-->
</script><script language="javascript"><!--
r=41;d.images?r=d.im.width:z=0;pr();//-->
</script><noscript><img SRC="http://t0.extreme-dm.com/0.gif?tag=snowbone&j=n" ALT="" height=1 width=1></noscript></center>

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Curtis
