Butch upload doing strange things

Post by Brigid »

Okay I have yet another problem. I tried uploading my files using the Butch Server. It seemed to go okay, except for one little thing. The image sources and links.

Here's an example:

Original coding for image tag: <img border="0" src="images/titlebar02.jpg" width="682" height="75">

What showed up when I uploaded file to Butch Server and rechecked source code: < img border="0" src="cg%20version/images/titlebar02.jpg" width="682" height="75" >

That 'cg%20version' is the name of the foulder all the comicgenesis related documents are in. But how did the coding change? And how do I stop that from happening?

Edit: tried another upload after double and triple checking my original documents. This time all that shows up when I try to view the pages is a black screen. And the source code looks like this: <html><body> </body></html>

Um...

1: your post is trying to show an image. Pop some "code" tags around your codes to stop the forum from reading them wrong.

2: Where exactly did the source code switch? Is this something that happened when you updated?

3: Please link your site so we can peek at it.

4: 'cg%20version' folder? I don't have that, and I use Butch all the time... you may want to pm an admin to make sure that's supposed to be there...

You may want to consider switching to a more reliable FTP.

Got it.

Actually, turns out the problem I was having was because I tried clicking on the actual file instead of the check box then 'view'. Hee-hee.

Thing is, it's still not quite working right. The site, that is, Butch seems to be working just fine.

http://marycontrary.comicgenesis.com/ <-- my webcomic page. The comic not showing up probably has to do with a file name error on my part or something. Though I would have thought the little navigation buttons over it would have appeared. And the page isn't accessing the external css pages I uploaded. I put them in the same folder as the dailytemplate and the indextemplate. Should I have put them in workspace? If so, where would they end up after that and how would I link to them?

hee ... your comic looks like it is going to be cute.

The comics themselves go into a folder named "Comics", which is inside your "workspace" folder. Generally speaking, all images which are not comics go into your "images" folder, which is also in "Workspace"... does that help?

Thanks. :shucks: That is partially the idea.

And that does help. Though I do have another question. ("One more thing!" to quote Uncle from Jackie Chan Adventures.) How do you link from the index page to what will end up in the /d folder?

Not sure what you are asking there.. I believe that is the "d"aily archive folder for each of your strips. You usually link to to them with a calendar and navigate through them with your "first" "next" etc buttons.

If you are uploading backdated comics, and it is named properly and it is 30-days worth of strips or less, put it all in the comics folder when you upload.

Then, if used the proper tags for the buttons etc.. run a regular update (if you have more than 30-days worth, run a full update, but make sure there are VERY few.. like 5 or less.. in the queue). The wonderful ComGen updater should set up the links for you automatically.

@.@ I think I followed that.

I think what I mean is, say, I put the external css file in the 'webpages' folder and the index page is supposed to link to it. What coding is required? just 'name.css' or '/name.css' or something else?

 Hope that made sense. My brain's kind of a jumble at the moment.

You can go into public_html and see where things end up, just don't touch anything. It shouldn't matter though. If they all go into the webpages folder in workspace they're all going to end up in the same place in public_html after you update. Common sense. :P

As JTorch said, don't worry about anything in public_html. If you want to link pages in the d folder, you just have to link it like this:

Say that the page name it 20060831.html. Just link it either individually with a "a href="http://COMICNAME.comicgenesis.com/20060831.jpg" sort of thing, or use the handy ***calendar*** tag. The updater does automatically link some when you put in the buttons. (But you need comics first!)

Which brings me to this:

Your comics still aren't showing up here. Have you put your comics (and just the comics) into workspace/comics under proper yyyymmdd.jpg/gif/png format and triggered a regular update?

Got it. *ducks cane* The first comic page is now up, running, and for all the world to see. Just a few little bugs to work out in some of my coding. Thanks, all. :shucks:
