I don't know if it is the new situation of new quest or the drawings but I really see how Quintyn has matured. He is no longer looks and acts like a kid or a teenager but more like an adult. Oh and I call for the question. All those in favor say Aye.

After the unintentional "light show", he's succeeding. If he actually tried to do something mean, the elf girl would probably soil herself.

If you mean the elf, they don't have a middle age. They just end childhood and their life together. If you mean the Racconan, well, they get full adult votes at 28 and a double vote at 100 IIRC.

Okay, I'm not really up-to-date on all the discussion around here, so please let me know if this has been suggested before, but...

Anyone think it's possible that the elf girl wasn't actually trying to steal Q's pack at all? That she just assumed they were both running away together, and thought she would help him by grabbing his pack?

'Course, I know it's written/drawn so as to make it appear very obviously that she's trying to steal it. But that's part of the reason I suspect this: it's too obvious. And I don't think her dialogue is consistent with the idea that she was trying to steal the pack. I mean, both times Q challenges her about it, her answers aren't, "What's wrong with it?" or "Why not?" They show a complete cluelessness as to what he's talking about. I wouldn't be surprised if the next page continued something along the lines of:

Yeah, but when she thinks she's going to get away from him (between the escape and the time he spends alone in the forest), her last exchange with him had a sort of "neener neener you can't catch me" attitude that seems to contradict what you're saying.

I'm not sure exactly where you're talking about, so I can't reply precisely. The only scene I can guess might be the one you're referencing would be the one where Q tackles her and she says,

What are you doing, are you mad?? You fuzzy idiot, the humans -- are still after us...

And this actually illustrates precisely what I'm saying. She can see absolutely no logic behind his actions. You'd think if she was trying to steal the backpack, she would have understood why he was upset. As it is, I see no gloating in her attitude, but more complete confusion: "Wait a minute, what's gotten into you? We're supposed to be getting away right now!"

And note: Quentyn has never once used the word "stealing" when he's accusing her. So it really is possible that it never occured to her that he thought she was stealing from him. This would also make her answer to, "Why did you run away with my pack" ('Cause you're supposed to run from the humans) later make more sense: she thought the running was the point of the question, and answered that. She completely missed that Q really concerned about pack.

Ahh. I can see the potential difficulty there, but I can also see it as part of a progression of thought and perception on the elf girl's part:

First, Q helps her by cutting the cage out of the tree. Sure, he may have let me go, but he's crazy.

Then the humans see them, she grabs the bag in order to help out, figuring they were both running away, and Q tackles her, effectively sabotaging both their escapes. That thing is even crazier than I thought!

She sees an opening to escape, and she takes it. The insane, inexplicably angry creature calls, and she's supposed to go back? Ha! He almost got them caught twice now. She's going to get as far away as she can from both him and the humans while she still has the chance.

Yeah, I think I see your point.

This may be the way of elves when it comes to humans.

Does a wolf think it is stealing when it kills and takes a straggling lamb? Or a raccoon when it gets into the henhouse and eats a few eggs?

"Grab what you can and run."

This, of course, would only be okay in a warped sense of morality.

Or in the eyes of a moral relativist. *hork...ptui!*

Not sure where the moral relativism came in. But just in case, for the sake of clarification, I wasn't arguing for moral relativism. I'm really saying I think I see a misunderstanding on Q's part: I think it's possible that the elf girl wasn't taking the pack for herself like he thought - maybe she was just intending to carry it for Q to help them get away quicker.

That would be extremely presumptuous on her part. It would presume that:

1) She knows that he will trust her, when nothing that has occured so far would lead her to that conclusion.

2) She can run faster than he, when she knows nothing about racconans.

3) She knows that he will run in the same direction as her, when splitting up makes much more sense, or

4) She can find him again to return the backpack (evidence shows otherwise).

Far easier to believe that she saw an opportunity to steal his backpack and took it...literally.

My remarks about moral relativism was merely a comment on anyone who would think that a set of moral values that includes theft as okay.

I relook at the comic and it make me wonder: She heards stories about 'Racconan', magical craature who put curses on people. The fakirs did a good job to make past the rac'connan as demons. I doubt a lot that any stories show a good one using his powers to help people.

This seem really crazy to me to steal and insult a magical creature know to put curses on people. She seems not remember at this moment but she seen if catch up her (with magical boot) and uses a crossbow who can hit a whole crown in the same time. This seem to me a powerful demonstration of magic and she still insult him just after. This is risky behavior, I find that logical that she think that he want curse him now.

Elle n'est pas au bout de ces surprises.
