More of a site layout question than anything else...

Post by Kilre »

But I would really appreciate comments about the story, art, layout, and/or anything else I can't remember to list here.

I got one comment, a long time ago, that there was too much scrolling from right to left on the pages, in addition to up and down. Scrolling down to see the whole pages is what I am aiming for, but I'd really like to know if anyone else has to scroll right to read my pages(except on the index page, but I'm always open for suggestions regarding that).

It's not a problem on the two computers in my house, and my uncle's computer, but I'm sure that those aren't the only computers with access to my comic...at least, I hope they aren't the only ones...

EDIT: For those who hate my banner, the link is here

It all fits on one page for me!

Also, I like where your shoutbox is on the page

No problems here either although I think stylistically it's odd to have the calendars right below the ad because it leaves a lot of empty space that you could be employing for the comic or something more interesting than *nothing*. Also I think it would be better for the navigation to be aligned with something closer to its own width. Maybe if it was center aligned, I'd like it better.

I hadn't thought about the calendars at all; I must have gotten too used to them. I've moved them below the pages in the archives, and just wiped the one above the page in the index.

I was going to dissent against centering the nav buttons, but after looking at the other pages, I realized they do look good centered. Soon as I find which HTML line fixes that, they shall be centered!

Well your page will look different based on the resolution your viewer is using. Older versions of windows default to 640X480 which is barely funcitonal. I'd say for using the web everyone should have 800x600. Fortuantely I think newer OSs default to this.

Any halfway knowledgeble user will set resolution as high as possible within the limits of the hardware.

For the sake of web design you should make sure it's obvious what your website is from the very tip of the page. That means a description of the site, or at least some of the comic being visible right away. Navigation should be right on top of the page or on a side bar.

Horizontalscrolling is an absolute nono. Most mice don't do horizontal scrolling, and no one wants to go back to the caveman days of going all the way over to the scroll bar.

Having a "Best viewed at" recomendation on the front page is also recomend.

Hmm, considering this advice, and how your own page looks, a revamp of the top of the index page is in order. Tomorrow, after I wake up...

For a comic that reads top to botttom, as mine does, that is a given. However, do you have this problem when viewing my pages?

Added to list of things to improve on pages when I wake up tomorrow.

I have really high resolution. So horizontal scrolling isn't a problem for me on most anything.
