Ok, Rich said that the planet the Questor-verse is set in isn't Earth, right? What if it's just another planet in the Milky Way? If it is, then humans on Earth could be at our point in technology, TV and all, while humans on insert-planet-name-here are still in the Dark Age or something.

I don't see anything that would contradict that, but then I also see no reason to think that could be the case, either: it is not relevant to the story at all.

Aw, man, I got the names of my two favorite comic artists mixed up. His names RALPH. My mistake, Rich is the name of the guy who draws Order of the Stick.

Ok, lame pun. As for the lack of logic and the no connection to the storyline, what if a human from our world, an air force pilot or something, ended up in the Questor-verse? And, for a possible explanation as to how THAT could happen, two words: Bermuda. Triangle.

EVERYONE is insane. Not just here, not just in a specific geographical location or fandom... But everyone, everywhere, is insane. Some of us just hide it better than others.

But nonetheless, it may very well be a good idea for the story arc. A US air force pilot flies into the Bermuda Triangle and ends up in the Questor-verse, on the human side of the mist wall. He gets called a witch/heretic, and ends up running into Q. So, the two strike a deal. Q keeps the air force dude safe, the air force dude helps him find the artifacts any way he can.

Actually the only sane people are those who have been released from an asylum because they have paperwork saying that they are sane. Everyone else you have to take their word on it.

Sounds a bit closer to Terry Brook's Landover series to me.

But what good's the Air Force dude going to be able to do without his jet?

There was a classic old SF story back in the 60s, "A Hawk Among the Sparrows," about the pilot of a high-performance jet fighter getting zapped back to 1917 France. (It was a VTOL, like a Harrier, fortunately; otherwise, there's no way he'd have been able to land or take off anywhere.)

A modern fighter jet should be able to make quick mincemeat out of Baron von Richtoffen's Flying Circus, right?

Wrong.

WWI wood and fabric aircraft have little radar cross-section, so his radar-guided missiles can't see them.

WWI wood and fabric aircraft do not put out plumes of jet exhaust, so his heat-seaking missiles can't see them.

The maximum speed of WWI wood and fabric aircraft are *way* below his stall speed, so he can't effectively dogfight them.

And what's probably the AF dude's biggest barrier, all of wartime France can only come up with enough kerosene for a couple of brief flights. (High-performance jets burn huge amounts of fuel.) It's much worse in Quentyn's world. They're likely to have no kerosene at all, and even if they do, there's probably no way available locally to make it suitable for a high-performance jet aircraft.

(The guy in the story did find out one mode of attacking wood and fabric aircraft in a supersonic fighter jet... use the shock wave and jet wash as a weapon.)

I think it much more likely to involve alcohol, fairies, and fairy rings.
