Adding another author?

Post by Bondsofblood »

How do you add another author to your site? I tried to do it in the old siteadmin place, but it won't let me. It kept telling me the page needed authorization and that I needed to return to the login page and kept sending me back to the main page. Is there a way to add another author in the new siteadmin place? Thanks for any help you can give me (I'm a dumb newbie).

As I understand it, the whole "author" thing is going to go away eventually. That was the last I heard - for example, author isn't even an entry you can view (let alone change) via the current Siteadmin.

My intention is to use the forum's username "author name" for this instead, most of the code for it is in place.

The way I see it, they should stay seperate. A lot of people would prefer their full name as the author while their forum name is some ugly username. But I'm a noob anyway, so what do I know.

Hmm

I was just asking because our comic is done by two people and it seemed unfair that only my name was on the website. But if it's going to stop saying "by Melissa Goldberg" then I won't worry about it.

Well if I understand Kisai correctly, it'll stop saying that and start saying "by bondsofblood", which is my point. I'm sure many people would prefer their real name as the author name.

You could just change the code and remove ***authorname*** or whatever the tag is that adds the authorname when the comic is parsed, and put in "by XXX and YYY".

It'll still show up on the guide and places as the forum name though, won't it? I don't use the ***author*** tag anyway, because it doesn't take very long to type out my name anyway.

CGWiki, for all your whats, hows, and whys. Go to the section on ***first_day*** tags, etc. and it should help. The wiki, at least for me, is spazzing right now though, so if you get a bunch of warning messages just scroll past them.

EDIT: I notice you editted your last post, so assuming you saw my post, I'll tell you what to do in case you can't find what you're looking for.

Basically just make your images, name them first_day.jpg, last_day.jpg, next_day.jpg, and previous_day.jpg, put them in your images folder, and it will replace the ***tags*** for the buttons with the images instead of ordinary text links.

Nay, your forum profile would have a "display author name as" field for it. That way it would be consistant accross multiple comics. The existing author system was supposed to allow multiple authors to be searched and stuff, unfortunately it's redundant with the forums data, which wouldn't be a bad thing if I didn't make the author tables so convoluted in the first place that there are more authors than there are comics and authors randomly getting "stuck" to comics they don't own after repairs.
