Poor guy is trying to cancel his AOL account.

Holy crap, that poor dude. What kind of customer service is that?? I know it's hard to cancel pretty much everything without the lecture spiel, but GEESH. . .

yeah.. AOL's impossible to get rid of. I had to call a preist to excorcise it.

I tried AOL when I was desperate for an internet provider out here in the country. It did not work. Period. Because of the poor quality of my rural phone lines, I couldn't stay connected for more than a minute. I spent more hours on the line with their support people than I did installing and using the service. Eventually both I and the support person agreed that it was just impossible for me to use AOL.

I asked him to take me off their mailing list. He said, "Oh, can't do that. We're very aggressive."

He wasn't kidding. I got wave after wave of mails, pleading with me to 'return to AOL', each one with CDs. I'm still getting them, over a year later. They've spent a lot of money sending me junk I could not use even if I wanted to. I can't see this as good business practice. It looks like they could go bankrupt from wasted mail charges.

Actually, I found out that if you play it right, you can probably get away with 3 or 4 free months of AOL. Just threaten to cancel your account at the end of every month and they'll offer you a month free if you change your mind. They did it to me like 3 times.

AOL has been screwing a lot of people lately. Even when your account comes off as cancelled they still bill you for the month. They're very tough to get rid of and they have been making false charges on peoples bills since they started

Prayer is not enough. I say we declare holy war. It really shouldn't be hard to convince people that AOL is the source of evil in this world.

I know nothing of AOL from an early time I was scared to death of its evils so never witnessed them first hand, but that does sound like its best not to have experienced this type of hell.

AOL is just another ISP in Australia - and quite a small one too.

Is it still America Online, or is it named after some other country there?

Austia Online?

No, it's still America. That's probably why it isn't popular. I think American Express has the same trouble.

And... "Austia?"

Austria and Australia are the same country. Like Holland and the Netherlands, Canada and Can-eh-da, China and Japan.

Yeah, it's great having a famous action superstar (and politician!) like Arnie coming from our country, not to mention the Vienna Boy's Choir. Image

Oh, and "Australia" has only one "i".
