The more I hear about the Rac'Coonan society and civilization, the closer it appears to my personal idea of utopia... which I tried to outline in Final Fantasy Dreams, an RPG I came up with...

*sigh*

I swear, I must be a conservative at heart. Too bad that I disagree with Ralph on alot of social issues ^_^ One of these days, Ralph, I need to pin you down on economics, and see how close our intent lies.

Oh well, I tried. You are right though. It doesn't fit. How about Art Nuevou? Does that work?

Whenever someone says steampunk, I always think of the Wild Wild West and Metropolis.

Would A Series of Unfortunate Events be considered steampunk? I've heard that comparison being made, but I haven't really thought about it beyond the scope of absurdism.

Well, someone's already mentioned GIRL GENIUS.

I think the original comic-book version of THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN also fits in.

"A series of Unfortunate Events" would be more victorian goth, I think. the Lemony Snicket books are actually a satire of the rather popular--- and dreadful-- "orphan peril" serials of the time period. "A little Princess," Charles Dickens' "Nell," and a few others come to mind.

Indeed... that's why some portions of the Harry Potter books annoy me so. It's as if JKR took a pair of scissors and a pot of paste to some of Dickens' "poor lil' orphan" books.

Since someone brought it up, the trick with lux likely wouldn't work on any Rac Conan or the more powerful human mage. They're likely to feel you kenning them and recognize what you're trying to do. An evil human might use it on a defenseless peasent to serve as an example, but battlefield use is limited, if at all practical.

However, I submit such tactics might prove useful to an assassin. A quick death, provided you've practiced, and little evidence of foul play. Perfecting the technique to the equivilent effectiveness of just slitting their throat would take a lot of time, and a good lux generator. Also might be handy to have skill and capacity slightly above that of the most powerful Rac Conan mage.

Ah well, just an idea... dunno if it'd be worth it though.

.....btw, did you ever notice that "evil" and "vile" use the same four letters? 'Cause I just did.
I'm lost. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait. Thanks.

Quite frequently. It often varies what grade I'm in.... but generally elementary school....

A corollary dream is one where I have to go back to work at the Krispy Kreme donut shop again... in its way, the most demanding job I've ever had. Chronically understaffed, mountains of cleaning, constantly running on a deadline for a daily quota of donuts that kept going UP and UP and UP.... and all the while that clock ticking down to the morning opening....

Best part of either of those dreams is the point where I suddenly remembering "wait a minute, I'm 35 years old. I'm a freelance cartoonist. I don't HAVE to be here if I don't want to!"

Hmm. Can't say I know the feeling, but I am looking forward to experiencing something similar.

I don't really remember my dreams so well.

I think only once, I dreamed I was at my first elementary school back in Mexico City, complete with the glossy red brick walls (made the classrooms look gloomy). And then maybe twice for high school in the US.

I'd guess Quentyn never had a nightmare about the town secretly setting up a fairground around his shack, and all the townspeople waiting to greet him as he stands in his doorway in his nightclothes... But he will... he will...

A little memory to take with him, as he ventures out into the World.

(And discovers humans using the internet, and a guy named Ralph who has an online comic... After that, it all went twitchy for a while.)

Intersting point here. Until Ralph shows us, we really don't know how developed the "outside world" is.

Sure, even after the Rac Conan isolated themselves behind the Mist Wall and the swamp they maintained some trade and contact. Sure, we know there are (were) orcs, dwarves, humans, dragons, etc. Sure, we've heard there are (were) human sorcerers and a human Church. But the Rac Conan have been in almost complete isloation for how long?

There's no telling what Quentyn will be heading into.

Questor at the End of the World wrote:Quentyn looked out over the deslote landscape of a devastated world. The last vestages of dying plants protruded from whatever cracks in the sun-baked soil they could find. Dry watercourses ran through ruined structures, and skeletons of every variety littered the ground between them. Landing at what appeared to be the most recent sign of habitation, he discovered a plaque with some sort of writing scratched into it. Much later, after it was translated back in the Seven Villages, it was learned that it read, "If any survive to read this, know that this was caused by the cursed items the raccoon demons tricked us into taking."
Ripley's Amazement wrote:"Step right up, folks! Come see the talking raccoon! The wonder of the century! And when you've had your five minutes looking, don't forget to stop by the gift store for your own plush figure!"
So What? wrote:Sure, he arrived in his luxship. Sure, they'd never seen a Rac Conan before. But the thing that worried Quentyn was the way nobody reacted to it all. Almost as if seeing something completely new was normal.

c'mon Ralph, what about my previous questions?
I've been meaning to ask, but do they have chocolate in the seven villages?

"do the Rac-cona have that baggy skin that some mamals have?"

is there anything that the Rac-cona as a race on a whole, are alergic to?

are there any Rac-cona equivelent to either what we would call 'furries' or what we would call 'anthropomorphic fans'?

in my own stories there is a certain ammount of annimossity (a kind of "I am not an animal!" if you will) between the anthro characters and the true animal beasts. does such an animosity occur within the Rac-cona lifestyle. is it the opposite of annimosity? do they just not care either way?
and another one I just thought of, I have heard of travelers back in the day carrying silver coins, not for money but because silver was said to reduce the risk of infection if you rubbed it on a wound. if done wrong it may reduce infection but would also discolor the skin. my question(s) is(are?) has anyone else heard of this or was I just getting scammed (I didn't buy anything from the guy who was telling me about this) and number two, would the Rac-cona be into the same practice (though probably not a whole coin but maybe a flat piece or something.)
I still say the doctor did it....
