Me again. Sorry if I'm hogging the forum with my topics, but I've been wondering about something.
I've never really been interested in romance. I faintly remember some flirting in grade school, but I don't think it amounted to anything. Ever since I became a teenager, I never have much of a desire to find a significant other. This was partially because of laziness, but I've backed it up with the fact that high school romances never seem to last.
But now I'm in a bit of a funk, partially because my junior year is about to end and I always get choked up moving into and out of breaks, and partially because of reading Better Days and Badly Drawn Kitties, and I was wondering if I should reconsider. I've never been particularly open to friends and family, but what about a girlfriend? Even if we never see each other after high school, would it be worth it just to have a shoulder to cry on occasionally?
Again, I'd like to apologize if I'm putting stuff that should be on LiveJournal here. But I'd like to think I can come here for advice and get a good answer.

High School Girlfriend?

Take it from someone who has been there, don't push anything like this. I tried asking several girls out during high school and all it got me was a variety of ways of saying "Are you out of your flipping mind?" I had various friends who were female, but no girlfriends. Heck, I never even really "dated" until I was in college and that was with a girl back home taht eventually dumped me on the phone.
It wasn't until I stoped looking that I met my wife. She just showed up in class one day and we him it off. But the end of the semester we were engaged. It was just right. (Sounds sappy, I know, but there it is.)
In any case, my advice to you, Doink, would be to let what happens happen. Don't worry about what you're supposed to do or have in high school. It doesn't always work that way. However, if you do meet a girl and you know (don't ask how, you just will) that she's right, feel free to ask her out. The worst that can happen is you're back where you were before.

You can have that without a "girl friend" - you can have many "girl" friends. If one clicks - great! If not, then you can still have fun with friends. My daughter has several "boy" friends and is happy. My wife and I met after college in a church Bible study I was leading - we both were working (I was 24 and she was 22). Within 2 months we knew we were meant for each other (last Friday was our 27th wedding anniversary). Don't rush it - if it is meant to be it will happen.

Y'know, I'm over it now, and I agree; I had the right idea before. Thanks for the advice.
Oddly enough, the closest I've ever come to a girlfriend (not that close) is a friend on AIM who lives in Holland. Weird, eh?
