1) Irregular Webcomic
2) Schlock Mercenary
3) Tales of the Questor
4) Girl Genius
5) Sluggy Freelance

This may change, particularly Sluggy. Some storylines have had it at number one, others have had it in the bottom five of comics that I read at all.

I usually like heavily plot driven comics, but IWC is different. It delivers high quality funny and high quality footnotes and as a multithreaded comic it doesn't get old the way gag strips often do.

Schlock Mercenary
Narbonic
Tales of the Questor
A Miracle of Science
Questionable Content

There are several others that were difficult to eliminate to pare the list down to five, including Errant Story, Mac Hall, Real Life, Penny Arcade, Megatokyo, Dominic Deegan, VG Cats, Ctrl Alt Delete, Ozy and Millie, and a few others.

Thinking back over my list, I notice two characteristics that they seem to share:
1) They are set in worlds which are recognizably different from ours.
2) It "means something" to belong to another species.
Ozy and Millie are a bit of an exception to rule 2, but even there it "means something" to be a dragon (and sometimes one of the others, like Ozy's explosion into a furball when he was chilled once). It also seems that the cartoonist made it up as he went along, but at least he is consistent once he adds a feature to his universe.
Anyone have suggestions for a furry strip which shares these two characteristics? In other words, I am not looking for something like "Class Menagerie", where the characters were students in a university that could have existed in our own world, and who were so human they may just as well have been people wearing fur suits.

Top eight comics I like, in the following order.

Schlock Mercenary
TOTQ
Goblin Hollow
Nip and Tuck
PvP
Concerned
Order of the Stick
8-bit Theater
The Pet Professional

Yes, I know, nine comics. Their the only ones I read, though, so I figured I might as well stick the last one in there.

Let me think here...

ZooCity
S.S.D.D.
Tales of the Questor
Schlock Mercenary
Girl Genius.

You could also say that these are all on my number one position, though. Heh.

Freefall
Macropod Madness (but don't ask me why)
GH
Dan and Mab's Furry adventure
Dragon Tails
N&T
Ozy and Millie

I really read only six comics--Goblin Hallow and Nip and Tuck added to the first four...but Dominic Deegan still has a place in my heart...
