I preferred the Hammer Bros suit. It was so bloody rare, but you were freakin invincible if you had it.The Neko wrote:You mean "furry mario"?SergeXIII wrote: You know, just the Tanooki suit would suffice. I loved the Tanooki suit.
That was always pretty fucked up. Same thing with the frog suit. Looked like he was being swallowed by a horrid green monster.
One of my favorites was Super Mario World. When I was a kid, that game could take weeks if not months to finish. But now that I'm older and, hopefully, wiser, it only takes a day to finish.
So The New Super Mario Brothers got reviewed...

Nintendo still makes GC games? ZOUNDS!Jackhass wrote:Supposedly there's yet another 2D Mario platformer coming too...
...not many people noticed with all the Wii and DS talk, but Super Paper Mario for the Gamecube this holiday season! Looks really neat and stylish too...plus Bowser is a regular playable character.

That's Nintendo for you...don't release a Mario platformer of any kind since Mario Sunshine, and no 2D platformer for well over a decade then we get 4 in a year.Terotrous wrote:There's actually YET another 2D mario platformer: Yoshi's Island 2 for the DS.
Add in Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii and it's a very Mario year.

They can call me when they release a 2D platformer that's better than Castlevaina: SOTN.Jackhass wrote:That's Nintendo for you...don't release a Mario platformer of any kind since Mario Sunshine, and no 2D platformer for well over a decade then we get 4 in a year.Terotrous wrote:There's actually YET another 2D mario platformer: Yoshi's Island 2 for the DS.

So can Konami, for that matter: it seems they're having a hard time topping themselves.KittyKatBlack wrote:They can call me when they release a 2D platformer that's better than Castlevaina: SOTN.Jackhass wrote:That's Nintendo for you...don't release a Mario platformer of any kind since Mario Sunshine, and no 2D platformer for well over a decade then we get 4 in a year.Terotrous wrote:There's actually YET another 2D mario platformer: Yoshi's Island 2 for the DS.

Though I'm sure there are people who will argue that various NES / SNES Mario games are better, depending on how much value you place on "impact" or "classicness". SOTN wouldn't exist without Super Mario Bros and the NES to give Castlevania its start. Though if you're talking about strictly "how much fun is it to play right now", then probably only Yoshi's Island has any chance of being compared, and they're such dramatically different games I wouldn't know where to start.
