The archives stopped archiving

Post by MightyFoxling »

http://tarandfeathers.comicgenesis.com

So, I uploaded on time, for the past three updates. They turned up just fine on the front page, but then on the next update, they ceased to exist in the archives.

I checked my FTP program, and /d/ does not have their pages listed; yet they are listed in public_html's Comics section. When I try to look at just the comic images, I get a 500 Internal Server error.

I'm not sure what's going on; the rest of my archives are fine.

Any help, please?

Not sure WHY it happened, but the fix:

1) go to public_html/d/ and delete the html files for the two offending dates.

2) Upload the images again to workspace/comics

3) Run a regular update.

4) Wait 15 minutes.

(yes, alternatively you could just upload the comics to public_html/comics but CG extraordinarily frowns on people uploading directly to public_html so don't do it)

Unfortunately there ARE no /d/ files being created. It just stops at April 24, and doesn't include April 27 or May 1.

I don't know why it's not; I've tried reuploading the comics themselves a few times...sometimes they show up in public_html/comics and sometimes they don't. I don't know why.

Currently my public_html/comics file looks like this:
(...) 20060420.jpg 20060424.jpg 20060504.jpg

?? Skippin' two.

edit: And I also know I'm NOT uploading to public_html/workspace; I'm uploading to the right one. X_X (thank goodness)

My apologies for bugging you again but people keep asking me what's happening.

Any ideas yet?

Let's try this - do my original directions, but include all the comics from the 24th up (that means the one before, the two it skipped, and whatever is later).

Whatever you don't have to delete, don't worry about. Then reupload all those images, and do a regular update.

It may be your previous /d/ file is kind of wonky.

Do you have dailytemplate.html in your workspace directory? The problem could show up if you have deleted/renamed dailytemplate.html since April 24th (the last update that was correctly archived). If you do have dailytemplate.html, try deleting it, re-uploading a fresh copy and running a regular update (*not* a full update).

I tried both things, and they didn't work :\

When I uploaded a new comic, the comic that was on the front page was not archived.

*sighs and pokes it*

EDIT: Also when I deleted the /d file for April 24th, it didn't reupload >.< Aiya!!

This problem is consistent with having no dailytemplate.html or it being named or placed improperly.

Again, check to make sure you have your dailytemplate.html in your workspace folder (NOT workspace/webpages or anywhere else, it has to be straight into your workspace folder) AND that it is named exactly dailytemplate.html (NO capitalization of the file name or extension, and NOT .htm as the extension, it has to be .html).

If all else fails, send a PM to STrRedWolf so that he can have a look into your account. Make sure to thoroughly explain your problem and include a link to this thread.
