I've not had any experiences with "ghosts" that weren't logically explained. Mostly stuff like "there's a ghost in my room late at night" and then I realize I left my coat on the door knob.

My James says there's a sort of ghost wandering around the house that looks like a younger version of me, with pigtails.

And that was before I told him about the weird shit that goes on in this house.

Wait, no - I'm thinking about the last Madonna video. Nevermind.

I've been to a couple catacombs in Europe... and I definitely agree that there's an aura around those places.

It's scary and spiritual at the same time.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

My brother claimed there was a ghost in his old house. Granted this house was old and it used to be a really nice house in Waco, untill that part of town made its value drop (my brother was flash by a hooker and got cocaine addicts knocking on his door at night). I can't remember why he said there was, but every one in the house believed it and one of the roomates (who was wiccan at the time) even tried to exsercise (Excercize? I dunno) it or something. I dunno.

There's probably some rule about ghosts just talking in plain english. I mean, if you could slam doors and blow out windows and whatnot, you think it could pick up a damn pencil and write, "Hey, your cat keeps peeing on that corner I like, make him stop or else!"

That of course, would put most psychics out of business.

Psychic: "Mmm... I see... your grandfather... and he is pointing and he's angr-"

Grandfather: "Shut your mouth bitch. Damn right I'm angry. My stupid relatives are spending my inheritance like it's water and not one of them has put a flower on my grave in months. Screw them, get me a lawyer, I'm writing up a new will."

Psychic: "..."

Grandfather: "And another thing, get your money back from this phony Psychic. She couldn't read the directions on a SPOON let alone my mind."
Image Image ImageImage
Crossfire: "Thank you! That explains it very nicely, and in a language that someone other than a physicist can understand..."

Denial is not falsification. You can't avoid a fact just because you don't like it.
"Data" is not the plural of "anecdote"

Only ghost I'm pretty sure of is the velcro ghost at my parents' house. It's a very simple sort of ghost . . . all it does is make the sound of velcro pulling apart, and it only does it at night when all the lights are off and everyone's in bed. At first I figured it was just a dream or mild hallucination, but I described it to my brother and he got all wide-eyed and said "You've heard it too?!"

And then there was the rag with legs . . . but I suppose that was more of a monsterous freak of un-nature than a ghost.

There are psychics who claim to be able to have spirits write through their hands. I think it's called "psychography."

It's also fun to watch the "channeling," as I mentioned earlier; whether you believe in it or not, it's still entertaining. The medium on "Most Haunted" will adopt (absorb?) the appropriate mannerisms and vocal inflections (depending on the spirit's age, gender and disposition). Once, dealing with a violent spirit, he started growling (almost) incomprehensibly and hurling furniture at the crew members, then entered into a seizure-like state until they could snap him out of it.
In order to clearly see what is in the shadows, you must first enter them.

On a more serious note after my joke 'bout Madonna; I'm actually in to paranormal phenomena like this. Caught every possible episode about the paranormal that I could while watching A&E.

There are several categories of ghosts; ranging what kind of haunting it is, to the nature of the ghost itself.

More than anything I'm interested in the most malevolent of spirits - such as the Amityville horror stuff, what would be commonly referred to as demonic entities. I'm mainly interested in this because it seems like the entities themselves are a form of psychic vampires that, to begin with, are attracted by intense human suffering and have the capacity to feed of of it.

Such as that "Haunting in Connecticut" that ran on Discovery channel where a former morgue-turned-family-home seemed to be attracting evil spirits through a freezer where bodies were kept. That show was f'n metal and intense, and kept me on the edge of my seat. After the show I spent a month reading up on the incident (The names used in the show for the family aren't their real names, BTW) and e-mailed the researches in the shows.

Of course, that's if you're into that kind of stuff.
Currently my main paranormal fascination is leylines, which is one of the reasons why I want to visit Britain. The other is I want to visit Stonehenge. Since Stonehenge lies on the leylines it works out very well for me :p

I'd like to see the interaction between Stonehenge with various metals and crystals, and for kicks various superstitious items. People have said the stones sometimes glow and have a vibe, so I'm extremely curious about this.

Wouldn't it be wild if leylines were a viable energy source?

I used to live in the King House in Mayport, FLA, which is host to at least four "presences," but whether or not these were concious entities or just the D.T.s I could never tell. Little Red Man was the midget ghost of a pimp (the house had been a brothel before the fire of 1913), And Rafaella Montoya, a guachupin who died in a swordfight on the first floor around 1760 or so, had a habit of appearing in reflective surfaces when you weren't expecting it. The others were what I called the "peripheral people", so named because you'd see someone standing next to you in the corner of your eye, but when you turned to look, you were alone. one of them was a big white dog.
I suspect the whole damn town was haunted, dating back to the early 1600s when Gaspard du Coligny and his Hugenot colonists were massacred by Spaniards after being promised their freedom. The Inquisition was not known for its kindness, either to the natives or to the French.

The strangest aspect of these ghosts was that I think they liked me. Instead of "cold spots" there were "warm spots" and none of the manifestations were frightening or aggressive towards me. Other geusts in the house were not so lucky, sometimes reporting a headless woman who haunted the second floor, and was none to happy about her head being missing. I never saw her.
I strongly doubt that any of these hallucinations had the capacity to inflict harm on the living. But a little research went a long way to convincing me that they may have been real. But then again, I am sometimes quite gullible.

I haven't had any ghostly experience and I'm not very inclined to believe in it. I've heard a lot of stories, some even from first hand, but people I've heard them from can never quite explain why they decline to find a reasonable explanation for what happened, they just insist that they had the "feeling".
I think that they make quite a good subject for stories, though. Ghost stories are awesome.

I Personally don't believe in ghosts, but I do believe in spirtial presence. I guess you could call it like a guardian angel belief, or lady luck, something like that. I'm not really sure how I can explain what it is a I believe without believing in the ghost, polterguists, etc bits of it.

On a related note, an interesting sleep problem has been associated with people believing in alien abduction, evil spirits and the like. Sleep Paralysis can cause people to hear and see things that aren't there, and not being able to move while it's happening makes people fear what ever it is they are seeing or hearing. Some think that Sleep Paralysis may be responsible for some of our mythology.

Specificly; it's related to incubi. The demon was supposed to sit on your chest. Interestingly some people with sleep paralysis mention feeling a great weight on their chest.

Similarly succubi come from the explanation of nocturnal emmissions.

Several people I know suffer from that - we've had a lot of interesting conversations about it.

My great uncle was an exorcist. His first exorcism failed - his hair went white in a few days, despite the fact he was a young man. He was called to do a second exorcism - according to my great aunt, a black dog came out of the mouth of a possessed woman. My great uncle died shortly afterwards.
