Another simple question non-related to technical stuff

Post by Goldencrystals »

...brought to you by the letter 'S'!

I was just wondering how many pages of my comic I should have before I start pitching/pimping/whoring it out to the community big time? By big time, of course, I mean not obnoxiously so, ha ha.

But I ask this question because I know I've looked at some pitched comics that didn't have many pages, I couldn't really get into the plot, and forgot about. Some have too many pages and I feel like I can't catch up.

So I guess what I'm asking is what part of the plot I should wait for to start pitching. The beginning? The 'point-of-no-return'? The introduction of more key characters? I have about 6 pages up now, and it's basically introduction of the main character, nothing has really happened.

Usually the rule of thumb for comic pitching is 25 comics. By then you should have established a storyline and a relationship with the characters.

*poke*

Thirty comics has been the standard for a long time. :)

What about 12 1/2 comics? That's a good 16th of 100!

In our comic pitching forum, a comic must have at least 20 pages, but nobody says you have to pitch when you get that far. Basically, pitch when you feel you have enough of a storyline to get people interested and enough of an archive to leave them satisfied until your next update.

It also helps to pitch when you have a really good page up: if it's art you're proud of or during an action scene, for example. NEVER pitch when you've got filler or fancomics on the main page. Be careful about parts with too much dialogue, as well.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

Rather than clutter the form with a new topic I'll ask here since this is a simillar topic.

My first major story arc will end around comic 15 (this is the 15th not counting filler which I don't include in my total comic count)

however my comic is a weekly and is a full page, not just a strip, so it's rougly triple the size of an average daily comic. I was wondering if that's sufficent to pitch it?

Given it's a weekly I'd really rather not wait until 30 since that's over half a year for me.

Yeah, mine's a full page too, but I post it three times weekly. I'm waiting until my 25th to start pitching. I think that if you think there's an interesting enough plot-line for new viewers to get hooked, or at least check up on it, I say it'd probably be safe, but I would wait until you at least get 20. That way, you said your first arc ends at 15, then your readers can start something new as well, and start to follow it! That's what I would do at least ^^;
