Y'r probably right about the lawyers - if it is indeed a case of someone slipping that by the judge ("Honest, Your Honor! We THOUGHT he wuz hiding! Really! It's a puny lil' village... that should count as hiding! Right?"), then once the facts come out and are made public, a judge somewhere is going to become very embarrassed and humiliated.

There are few things in the world more nasty than a justice who's been made to look stupid and ignorant. They tend to deeply resent it...
Hmm, as it turns out it's more like 'Your Honor the defendant is missing and presumed dead', but still shouldn't those the heirs of Quentin of Ridgedale and/or those they sold the land too be consider defendants too, since in effect their property (and all the current landowners in Freemans Down bought the land in good faith) is being taken from them?

Depends how smart the protections and Wildcard are. He did let that sonic blast loose in a confined space, even if it perfectly protecting him from the primary attack the echoes seemed to have knocked him for a loop. Better sound reflection might have left a dead Kraken AND Questor at the bottom of the well.

If Ralphs world was as laawsuit happy as our own Wildcard might need a label, you know the lawyer type that boils down to, "Warning: This device will not protect you from your own stupidity."
