Squeaky,
My money's on yet another undiscovered power of wildcard doing the landscape work. learn as you go aint the best way, but sometimes ya ain't got no choice

Id have to agree with the simple idea that the two RiB agents are packing the standard load out, why take an arsenal when you originally planned to talk to a bunch of politicians?

Well, I'm betting WildCard has a 'plasma cannon' setting somewhere in it ;)

(for those that read Schlock Mercenary....)

Yes, but it has to do an Ominous Hummmmmm first.

I was going to mention both those points before I read this post:

I seem to remember a collar that looked much more like a clarical collar to so I suspect Ralph did a touch-up to avoid confusion.

Regarding the lux-less weapon (crossbow), I would suppose it would be a good idea for this team to be ready for cases where luxcraft is rendered useless.

I think just calling Wildcard into action was all that was needed and Wildcard would do what is needed to get the job done and also protect Quinten while it's at it.

Honestly, people... you've been reading this how long and you're still amazed that everyone goes around armed? Even when you know how conservative Ralph is?

:shifty: You're all meeting your daily quota of foolishness if you ask me...
Ummmm.... what does being conservative or not have to do with being armed ?

I dont label myself "conservative" but I keep a nice razor sharp samurai sword in the car when I travel....

being armed just seems like good sense to me.

Thoolie = Cthulhu?
Understandable analogy.

Just as long as he doesn't start shouting 'sonic boom, I choose you!' or 'go-go wildcard sonic boom!'

Side note: under the circumstances, my battle cry would probably have been along the lines of 'mommmmmyyyyy' or 'oh$h1t, oh$h1t, oh$h1t, oh$h1t, oh$h1111t!'

It seems to me that NOT being armed when travelling anywhere that is not proven safe and extremely well travelled places would be insane in a world with swamp monsters, talking semi-savage alligators and the like...

After looking at the last panel I think its best described as "Former well".

(Does home owners insurance exist ?? Is Quentyn bonded or insured for damages ?)

I don't have a battle cry, it's called the sneak attack so they never know you're coming
I still say the doctor did it....

SqueakyBunny wrote:What puzzles me is what made that 'THOOOOM!!!'? I don't think that Quentyn had any pyrotechnics on him, so unless that kraken had burst like an highly overinflated pool toy, I don't know what would cause such an earth shaking event.

Hmm. If you bred a kraken with a holstein, would you get a Krakow?
Well, remember that Wildcard can do almost anything. We've seen it fire energy, fire, ice and sound. Throw in the fact that this power is so potent that it's cracking the ground, and you're going to get "THOOOOM" from the acoustics alone as the kraken goes from "well inhabitant" to "well done". Poor Quentyn's ears are going to be ringing for at least a day...

And if that RiB had fired his crossbow and hit, would be be a kraken good shot?

Yours truly,

The pun-returning,

Actually, it looks like Wildcard's protective circuits are still on the job. It was loud, but he's hearing normally again almost immediately. If he'd been unprotected that close to a sonic blast, he'd be deaf for a day or two.

So what's up with this? It does whiff like some kind of Kelo thing, and from Rose's reaction it -does- involve the whole village. Y'think someone's tried to pull the charter to get rid of the Questor?

And this will probably end up being a test case of the 'in absentia' provision - someone messed up and didn't write a solid enough 'the boy's -hiding- from the court' provision into it, so they're able to get away with not -notifying- a defendant? It's no wonder the lawyers are armed - they'll be lucky to get away with their fur intact.

That brings up an interesting question: How do you draw a katana in the confined space of a car?

Wouldn't surprise me. Given the damage the kid did to their plans in the big city, there's probably quite a few folks who want revenge and want it right now.

And that sort of attitude can make you careless about the details.

Y'r probably right about the lawyers - if it is indeed a case of someone slipping that by the judge ("Honest, Your Honor! We THOUGHT he wuz hiding! Really! It's a puny lil' village... that should count as hiding! Right?"), then once the facts come out and are made public, a judge somewhere is going to become very embarrassed and humiliated.

There are few things in the world more nasty than a justice who's been made to look stupid and ignorant. They tend to deeply resent it...

Which leads to the old wheeze about what do you say to a lawyer with an IQ of 50?

ok, enough Schlock references....

Or really, seriously pissed.
Rumor has it that, in the Masawi (sp?) case, the prosecution, defence and judge are all recomending the death penalty.

For the idiot little pissant government lawyer who thought the rules didn't apply to her. D:
A hard enough case, and she nearly blew it.

<voice=doug.e.doug>Ice? Ice!?!?</voice>

I don't recall ice... The first time Wildcard showed any power, it was the Ginsu of Cleaving effect on the three gators. The second was lightning bolts on the training ground. No telling what it would have done to the gangstas if the lot of 'em hadn't been netted first. Then the kraken-pulverizing Thoom of Doom.

Ah... I forgot about the testing...

and, finally,

5) ice.
