Comic Image does not appear (width and height = 0?)

Post by Moder »

Hello

this is my first post (the real first post apparently didnt work) to the FOrums.

My comic images are not appearing in my page. I looked at the source and It looks like It is dysplaying the image with zero width and heigth... Is this normal?

I am using the default templates...

Strangely lately the TODAY comic works.. but all others get this problem..

I thought about editing the templates, but there is no mention to the height and width there, only the COmicGenesis tags (***tag***)... so Im stuck about what to do

My comic is at:
modernlove.comicgenesis.com

Thanks!

Daniel

There is a tag that preloads the image for quick archive browsing. I can't remember what it's called, but it looks like that's what you've got going on.
Make sure the tag on the page is ***todays_comics*** and not something else.

Coding in HTML is a bit like walking back to where you were. It's time consuming, and by the time you get to where you were, that's where you are, and in order to get back to where you were, you have to go through everything you did backwards, and even then you're not there yet, because you're there now, so where you were is someplace completely different than when you started, and the whole thing winds up being rather frustrating and generally confusing...

Zero width and Zero height means a comic graphic that was corrupted on upload or that was uploaded as ascii instead of binary in my experience. Re-upload.

The image is fine

There's nothing wrong with his images. When you type in their absolute path, they come up just fine. If you take a look at his source-code, you'll see that it's an HTML declaration that the images should only be 0x0. Unless for some reason ascii uploads make html parsers think that images are 0x0, I don't think that's the case.

Oh, upon re-reading that, I noticed I sounded kinda confrontational. That was completely unintended. However, since I'm too lazy to type that out tactfully, I shall ask that you simply accept my apology for appearing to be confrontational.

You still there?

Just checked out your page and the problem still exists... Maybe you should ditch your /d directory and do a rebuild on the half hour (there's less load on the server then, since everyone else updates on the hour) and see if that fixes it.

Best of luck mate.

I'm still betting on a re-upload and re-update fixing it. :/ I've been able to go directly to my images as well, but for some reason the updater saw them as 0x0 files - the html is generated by the updater; it's like it either can't read the file to get the size... or something. Ditching the stuff in /d and reuploading would do the same thing.

And no, you weren't confrontational - no harm no foul. Takes more than that to make me cry. ;)

thanks!

thanks a lot for the help! sorry I didnt reply earlier...

Maybe the corrputed image thing is more probable, once Ive already tried ´reseting´ the whole thing with the default templates and running the Full Update..

Ill try re-uploading the problematic images...

Thank you both!

width/height = 0 is always either:
uploaded in ascii
or
file is not a jpeg/png/gif/swf/svg

We're going for SVG now, Kisai? I better check to see if WolfKeen can handle it then...

It was something on the todo list, grep the first few lines of .svg files or zcat the first few lines to locate the width and height of the canvas. Not hard.

Just nobody but me has ever even bothered to mess with SVG so I don't remember if I put the support in autokeen or not.

Make sure that the images for your navigation buttons are labelled correctly. That's:

first_day.gif or first_day.jpg
previous_day.gif or previous_day.jpg
next_day.gif or next_day.jpg
last_day.gif or last_day.jpg

Remember, capitals (or lack thereof) matter, even in the .gif and .jpg tags!
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."
