24 hours?

Post by T.s.a.o »

Um, this is a pretty big gap as far has the duration of the movie is concerned. Darn, I should have waited on getting that second barrel of hot links.

The wonders of computer touch up....

Only nit I have to pick is what MOS is 'Chainsaw's' character. She can't be Combat Arms, women still aren't allowed in the infantry, or cav, or armor, so that rules out her being Green Berret, Ranger, and most especially Delta (even though the Army still claims Delta dosen't exhist).

And this will also show how much an army brat I am, I'm going through all the possible davisions in my mind that use the dimond as part of their patch for the Light Col(if there was a battalion mobilized, Lt. Colonel would have been the CO, though, since I can't tell the color on a BW, he might be 'just' a major 8-) ). It actually looks like he might have a Ranger tab. In fact, I'm pretty sure he has one, thats the only thing I can think og that the patch just above his unit patch on his Class A is. Off the top of my head, these are units it CANNOT be:

101st Airmobile(it isn't an airborne unit anymore, it concentrates on helicopter assaults)
35th Mech
81st Airborne
1st Infantry
1st Armored
3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment

Ok, I'll stop being an Army Brat now....

If I recall right, it's s'posed to be a marine base.

Of course, the patches might not have been appropiately researched, but you can tell better than I. ;D

From the Lt. Colonel's uniform, he's army, especially looking at the shoulder tab over his unit patch, that's where the 'RANGER' tab goes on a US Army uniform. I do not, off the top of my head, *THINK* that the Marines use a similar tab, also, he is wearing crossed rifle brass, that means he's an infantry officer. Marines, where his rifles are, where globe and anchor.

The cut is also wrong for a Marine unifrom, I've heard it said that Marine As are 'Sharper' looking than ARmy, but, for what its worth, its not cut quite right for Marine, but pretty good for US Army.

Heh, now all we need is dashing and gutsy Blackhawk pilot that happens to be an akita... (ok, just playing ego to my dad, he was a helo jock in the Army).

haven't there been several instances of movie army personel wearing completely wrong medals?

Such as Men of Honour

In the scene where Billy Sunday (Robert De Niro) goes into Pappy's cabin, Pappy is shining some medals. As Pappy is giving his speech about things not mixing, one of the medals displayed is a Meritourious Service Medal. This medal was not introduced until 1969, long after this scene was supposed to have taken place.

Or "No Way Out"

At the party where Kevin Costner meets Sean Young and Gene Hackman for the first time, and during the other early scenes, he's wearing the medal and ribbon for the Navy Cross - but he doesn't win the medal until later in the movie when he rescues the lookout during the storm, and this is what gets Gene Hackman to remember him (when he sees the story in the newspaper). He's too young and doesn't have the right other ribbons to have won the medal in Vietnam or any other action.

Bah, that's Navy....

But personally, I think they would have reaserched enough to tell the difference between US Army, and USMC.

Could be MP, and that's exactly the type of unit the Army would use in a case like this.

Point, I got use growing up around Cav and Airmobile I keep forgetting that they wouldn't send a front line combat unit to this sort of situation.

Guess I saw the crossed rifles and automatically thought infantry or airmobile.

Considering how they're going about this, they wouldn't have had time to get properly researched uniforms if Hippo didn't get them originally.

Well, given HHH's intended message, the point he'd probably make was that any armed forces are bad. This is, of course, bullhonkery.

I did try to research the military ranks, uniforms, etc....
However, the internet was not being generous that day--- I found some info on the uniform but not the hat, and the insignia are deliberately left blank because I couldn't get all the info straight. It's an ARMY uniform, btw.... they're supposed to be National Guard (sent out by the state governor when Nip's superior officers freaked.) I can't even recall what rank he was supposed to have--- or what size force he was supposed to be commanding.

Heck, it's a B movie.

As to the canister, I left out the line where he says "found this lying on the garage floor." I did specify it was a "precursor chemical" so that there was room for doubt (consider that much of the WMD evidence in Iraq was production of precursor chemicals--- which can be used militarily OR industrially.....).

I gave him 24 hours because that's how long I figured the commander could BS about the "escaped deputy" and how he had "some men" out after him tracking him down. I also limited it to a group of about 4 or 5, because of tactics.... if the terrorists saw military vehicles and troops tearing across the terrain for them, they might just set the WMD off early.

The head honcho here is playing it close to the vest.

I'm really sorry to make this statement, but...

Does anyone else notice that the collar pin on the CO look a bit like an itty-bitty swastika? (the first pose, with his face away from the camera)

The other poses the pin is different, saying US, but the first pose at that distance and the shape of U and S muddled together as they are make it look different than it really is.

Its more than all right RH *chuckles* I'm just being a geeky Army brat in trying to figure things out. People don't like me going to movies that deal with the army anymore becasuse one: I'll point out what they did wrong as far as I know, and two, I'll count rounds fired and say the guy should'a ran out about fifteen sixteen shots ago...

As for his rank, he is either an Major, or Lieutenant Colonel. The only way to tell the difference is if you can see it in color:) Major is a golden oakleaf, Lt.Colonel is a silver. And if they're national guard, then Calbeck's probably right, they're MPs. I just jumped the gun and automatically assumed a Regular Army combat unit seeing the officer's crossed rifles and his Ranger tab in the first comic he appears, forgetting that you can still be in the National Guard and have earned a Ranger tab.

Oh, I thought Nip went back into the Mosque and found the canister, then went back to base. Then I haven't missed much then.
