Are ads allowed?

Post by Teraspawn »

I've had a look around to see if I could find anything about this, but all I could find was that Google ads aren't permitted. Just wanted to check: are we allowed to have paid ads on our comic pages or not?

From the Wiki:
Does Comic Genesis Allow Google Ads?
No. This is because the company that does ads for Comic Genesis, Burstnet, already gets feeds from Google Ads. Also keep in mind that BurstNet's TOS and Google Ad's TOS prohibit displaying competitors ads.
That means you cannot use Google Ads or any of its competitors. However, you are allowed to display paying ads as long as you set up the system yourself (i.e. something like "pay me 20$ and I will display your ad for a month").

Great! That was my plan, anyway. Thank you!

If you intend to sell your own ads, you will need to contact me via email. We do not allow it unless you profit share with our parent company, Keenspot Entertainment. This is the only way you can remove the ***advertisement*** tag legally.

What if you want to advertise for someone for free? A friend of mine owns a comic book store, and when I get my site setup, I would like to promote his store if I may.

AFAIK though, he can use both the ***advertisement*** tag and sell ad space on his site, no?

Right now, the answer is: Yes if you profit share, but we reserve the right to yank the ads you put on there. However, this may be against Burst and Google's AUP.

If there's a rule that you must profit-share from any ads that you sell on your site yourself, that really needs to be in the AUP RedWolf - right now if you pulled those ads from a person's site, they'd have the right to sue KeenSpot because the AUP specifically protects the user's copyrights. Pulling the ads would result in a negative financial impact as a result of your violating the user's copywritten site content and design.

You could pull the site as a whole though, of course. But you'd want to codify a statement like this regardless.

More to the point though, I don't know that anyone who isn't at, or about at, Ghastly's level of readership would ever make much money selling ads on their site?

Ditto what rkolter said, that's a pretty common question and it's the first time I hear about the mandatory profit-sharing. Is it new or was it simply overlooked in the past?
