A Victory for the little people!!
Ever since Australians have been droving sheep across our vast brown land, we've been making sheepskin boots and called the 'ugg' boots...
Well two years ago some upstart Yank company sent letters out here telling everybody to stop trading our sheepskin boots under the name of ugg boots. Deckers seem to think they owned the rights to the shoes we've been making and calling Ugg boots since sheep first crossed the Great Dividing Range.
Well our lot didn't take too kindly to that and kicked up a right fuss. Today, we won!
The name Ugg belongs to NOBODY! We can all call our sheepskin boots UGG BOOTS!
The little people have held back the big corporations at saved the Aussie Uggboot!
Now to wear you ugg boots with pride!!
(At least...once summer's over...)

Well, I find this fascinating, Dutch. Intellectual property disputes get me all hot and bothered. I'm glad that the traditional name of a form of footwear has kept its status as "free to all", and couldn't be legally co-opted by the hedge barons of U.S. Industry. To be honest, it really fries my bacon to learn when such things happen, because it only serves to further monopolize expression for short-term commercial gain, and makes the world a more homogenous place to exist.

Oh, those are ugg boots. I've seen them several times, but never knew that there was a particular name for them.rkolter wrote:
They're okay. But good on Aussieland for sticking it to The Man either way, neh?

I don't mind ugg boots. They look very "sword and sorcery" to me. In fact, I've taken reference photos of some to use in drawings.

Ugg boots have been popular here for years... I think they look like boot liners so I don't like them. Sheepskin boot liners though are so soft.
but if I wanted ultimate warmth without caring what my feet looked like, I'd wear bunny boots (note: Bunny boots are not made of Bunnies)

Then why are they called bunny boots? That's false advertising.cjburgandy wrote:Ugg boots have been popular here for years... I think they look like boot liners so I don't like them. Sheepskin boot liners though are so soft.

Oo. I've seen those. They always looked quite comfy. Didn't know that was the name for them, though. Seen them sold at stores and Renn Fairs.rkolter wrote:Ugg boots aren't that ugly. I was picturing a piece of sheepskin and a leather strap or somesuch.
Well, congrates, anyhow. Man, I can't believe all the rediculous lawsuites for name ownership that get started here.
