I might just be living up to gender stereotypes, but I think superhero cartoons are gross, bleh, yuck! I feel like at that point it's just pretty colors, I could never go back and watch them as an adult. But amblin's stuff was constantly referencing the arts and politics, I feel like I was the infotainment I craved as a kid...

*flashback* Buster Bunny drives off a bike lot with a used bike, within a block the bike falls apart.

The only exceptionally good hero cartoons were TMNT (the old one, have you seen the terrible new one) and the old X-Men because Rougue was super hot.

okay I guess the Batman series was pretty cool too.

I always liked the politcal jabs and hollywood in-jokes that were so prevalent in WB cartoons. For some reason they were still funny even though I didn't get many of them as a kid.

Same here! I didn't really know who a lot of those celebrities were, but I somehow knew they were to be laughed at...

I miss those shows... I particularly loved Animaniacs and Freakazoid.

Isn't amazing how some generations can change over a matter of five or ten years...The cartoons you're referencing as cool are the ones I see as the beginning of the end for television cartooning...

It's funny, though, my parents enjoyed those cartoons nearly as much as I did, and they were in their 30s. I think it's not so much a generational thing as it is ... hmm, maybe a perspective thing.

On a somewhat related note, I thought Tom & Jerry and all those Looney Toons cartoons were new when I was a kid. I had no idea they were from the 30's and so on.

No matter what you're going to see terrible things alongside great things. We've got truly awful cartoons today; but we've also got some fantastic ones.

Yes, it was. Oh man that was such a weird show.

I only ever caught one or two episodes. The one I remember had "My Buddy Stalin." A sitcom style skit where this kid had Stalin for his best friend....and Stalin would have anyone who annoyed him drug off by the KGB. It was soooo creepy.

Oh! Add to the list of old cartoons- Thundercats! And they've released those on DVD now.

Yeah, I'd watch most of those Looney Tunes over the new Animaniacs and Tiny Toons just about any time. I must admit though, the humour in some of the newer stuff is entertaining. I just find that the standard of cartooning has dropped...they don't look as good any more.

yeah, cartooning's getting worse.

For instance I've heard confirmed rumor that Disney fired all their 2D animators and have decided to only make 3D movies from now on because it's the hot money ticket. No respect I tell ya.

On a related note, does anyone remember a Don't do Drugs cartoon from the early 90s with George Bush Sr. doing the intro and then these kids like met up with every cool 80s cartoon character to learn about just saying no. I'd kill for a copy of that, though I'm pretty sure my grandparents have it somewhere. If only I were still allowed in their house

Yes, a lot of the old cartoons have a nice look that holds up today, and in some cases look better.

True that. Have you ever watched a long string of Hanna-Barbera cartoons on Boomerang? Such low quality.

Silverhawks was on Cartoon Network just as I went to college back in 2000. That was awesome. It's Visionaries that I wonder in terms of whether it existed or not. Man, that was a great show.

Tiny Toons is coming to DVD this year, and Animaniacs is on the way. I'm still waiting for the Real Ghostbusters to get to DVD.

Here's what you all need to check out: retrojunk.com You will find EVERY unique little-known show on this website, and a lot of them come with the original opening title sequence to watch! That's the coolest by far, short of having actual episodes. I mean, cripes, I completely forgot about a show from the 80s called C.O.P.S., and there it was! You will spend hours on there constantly going, "OH yeah! I remember that!". Trust me.

There's this one show that I think about all the time and don't know if I'm making it up or not. It's about this teenager that when you spill hot water on him, he turns into a red sports car. I rememebr vividly in the transformation sequence that his ass turns into the back of the car, and his pockets become the tail lights. One time, a kid spilled soup on the car, and the car shot wiper fluid at him. It's from the 80's I think.
