Very unprofessional behavior

Post by Tom Mazanec »

Well, we were right about the politics. Now Quentyn has to explain the WHY of his behavior.

Well, we know the WHY...Rillcreek's point is that Quentyn wasn't making the wisest or most professional choices. Which, in hindsight, is probably true.

I also don't think Rillcreek should be shielding Quentyn from the things he does wrong. He should not be holding his hand. And he knows this. Quentyn....did not choose the BEST choices for his actions, and now he must face the consequences of his actions...for bad or good. Rillcreek knows that he should not protect Quentyn from his choices, or else he will not grow up and become a true professional. Heros have a way turning up when they are needed. People don't need a hero who is strongheaded and ignorant of outcomes of his choices.

I didn't know master Rillcreek had a garden!

I also like the last panel. Rillcreek presents himself as being one feeling justified in his decision and yet does so in a non-threatening way.

why is quentyn backing away from a twig, personal boundries or is that just, some... thing or other that I'm not gettting.
I still say the doctor did it....

I meant Rillcreek might not know Quentyn's thought processes behind his behavior. Of course, next Rillcreek will have to explain how he could have handled the situation better (I was in a hurry to post...I once started one of these strip threads within 2 minutes of an independent start).

He was probably just lowering his head to follow Rillcreek. Didn't want to poke his eye out or something :)

Hey, I'd back away if someone threatened me with a twig. Those things can be sharp.

Hmm...unprofessional behaviour as in demolishing the Royals' headquarters while it was still occupied, or as in beating up Mulharney, or as in being butt nekkid at a lawn party? Or all of the above?

Or maybe as in being so careless as to let Wildcard get stolen?

Actually...well, once Wildcard got stolen, what choices Quentyn made from then on, including the jailtime, and the cause there of is the main source of the problem.

I'd say wildcards theft was a mistake most definately, then... lets see, trailing the gangs without backup cash or a pre-intended identity to assume incase they suspected him. not sure if falling through the roof would really be called avoidable...

I note his exact acusation was that his behavior was unprofessional. not reckless or anything worse. just unprofessional, he got the job done but he could have done it better.

Unprofessional

Assuming Master Rillcreek has his own sources and isn't depending on biased news reports, I can think of two things that might qualify to him as being unprofessional.
First, he left the situation unresolved. He bailed out of the city because he smelled politics. As a professional hero he is going to need to understand the politics of his actions, else he could end up working for the wrong side.
Second, he didn't get paid by anyone. Remember, Rillcreek understands perfectly what it means to be an independant contractor. "Never turn down a free meal." There must have been some sort of rewards out for cleaning up the gangs, yet Quentyn left town dead broke again.
Final note, when a wizard waves anything under your nose, a smart person flinches and backs up. "OH, you wouldn't seperate an old man from his walking stick, would you?"
On the other paw, Rillcreek seems to be smiling, so he isn't too upset with Quentyn. :)

But you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

If we are all wrong, he probably won't chew us out. He'll just reveal it in the next strip.

Rillcreek having a greenhouse is no surprise to me. It is his escape from his duties having to deal with Magic and Lux all the time. Many people have hobbies that they use to unwind from there occupations. A Greenhouse can be very relaxing for some people. :) :)

However having worked in the retail gardening business for 25+ years it would not be my first choice. I really didn't what to bring my work home. I much preferred Fishing, Hunting and Trap Shooting. :) :)
