12-26: This comic has been brought to you by the letter. . .

Post by CasVeg »

Is Quentyn about to get his tail saved by a remotely mysterious stranger? Or, is something less beneficial about fall on our heros head? Will it be immediately obvious to us who wrote the letter?

We'll just have to wait until the hiatus is over, on the 29th.

Wait, that's not even half a week. That's not a hiatus! That's a coffee break! Quite frankly, I don't see how this impacts the updates very much. Does this really warrant a notice, nice though it may be?

Anyway, I'll return later to launch into Hardcore Gratuitous Nitpicking Mode.

Bwahahahahah!

Ha-ha!

This assumes that RL does not mess with RHjr.
Fortunately, my 2005 Super CD should arrive during the "coffee break".

[...unWARP!]

Good evening.

Well, just what kind of trial is that? Quentyn CAN'T say anything in his defense without being rudely interrupted??

Note the seal on the envelope. Looks like it's of an adjudicator....he he he...

When Quentyn took his first questor 'quest' to rescue the swamp chiefs daughter, he commented that part of the deal was 'any treasure they find' or something.
Maybe he's entitled to a share of the goods recovered from the royals (i.e. a hokin big pile of gold coins?.
It's unlikely the authorities are going to be sending him a nice thank you note out of the blue. Perhaps it's a summons to appear at the royals trial, with a brief description of what he did to them?
Or, how about a job offer? ("we have a small dragon problem and wish to hire your questor")
Finally, perhaps the letters on the seal translate to "Deus Ex Machina".

And all of the people some of the time
But you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

I KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

Now, that is the perfect clue. We already know what it is, but Ralph decides to play with us, anyway.

For those who do not know, "Deus Ex Machina" translates from greek or latin, I forget which, as "God From A Machine" which refers to old greek plays where everything gets resolved by a god descending to straighten everything out. The machine part is the ropes and levers used in the theater to have him or her descend from acropolis.

Today it means a literary device used to resolve a plot conflict, in this case, between Quentyn and the Town Council. I'm betting it is written by the Adjudicator that Quentyn kept seeing.

Hi, Long time reader, first time poster.

If I was to wager a guess, I would say that the wax seal on the letter is that of the Fellowship of Truth that was mentioned during the story piece with the Fact or Opinion. Maybe a pardon of sorts that requires the seal on the letter to verify it's legitmacy?

Not likely. Scales usually represent justice. Truth is usually represented by a sword.

I'm guessing it's either the adjudicator over Mulharney, or Mulharney himself.

Oh, would I love it to be the second. I think Mulharney has a lot more respect for Quentyn that he lets on.

I would expect, especially with that label (is that what it says? I couldn't make out the characters) that it's an official if possibly confidential letter in which the adjudicators tell the Freeman Downs council that the news reports are part of his cover for the sting operation and should not be taken seriously.

I am curious as to whether it's Mulharney or the judge, though.

What a time for a break! (grumblegretzrassinfrassin...)

My guess would be the adjudicator over Mulharney. :) :)

I am not sure Mulharney would carry enough weitht to get Quentyn out of this lynch mob! :( :(

Actually, doesn't it mean "machination of god"?

Well yes, but that's the more english-ised version. Litterally sun tzu's is correct.

Hmmm... knowing RH's method of storywriting.... I would think Quentyn would be in -more- trouble rather than getting his tail saved. :) Then agian.... he's has a good number of pages of things getting worse and worse and worse... hmmmm... we shall have to see after break is over. Frankly, I was surprised to see -any- updates near Christmas! Go RH! Visit family! Relax!

If things get much worse for him, his Questorship will be put in jeopardy.
